Short Scale Basses.

Never thought much about them until I tried this one a few weeks ago.
I only wish I'd had the chance to try the 2- or 3-pickup model but the piezo takes even the single over the top!

Just got my Fender Mustang PJ and I gotta say, this thing thumps. It came perfectly set up and I really couldn't be happier with it. Have not had a chance to rehearse with it yet. Based on what I am hearing through my GK 700RBii and 2 GK NEO 15 cabs though, there will be no issue having this bass cut through and not get lost in the mix. I have a US p bass, rickenbacker, 2 basses I made for myself, and now this mustang bass and it's going to be a contender for #1.

The only negative thing I can even come up with on the bass is the fret ends on 3 or 4 frets could have been filed a little better but the fretboard was very dry and I assume contracted a bit.

Phenomenal bass and would highly recommend to someone who wants a killer short scale regardless of price.

I guess it doesn't exist until a pic is posted.

Got to play it in a band setting and I'm not a huge fan of the bridge pickup but this bass was bought with intentions of modifying the whole thing.

I want a really warm jazz pickup for the bridge anyone recommend anything?

Curious if any of you Mustang owners also have one of the new Supro Huntington models? Would love to get your two cents on a comparison run down. The Supro seems pretty amazing with the gold foils and the piezo option. I like the sound of the Surpro in some of the videos but a first hand analysis would be great if someone could provide.

Very interesting! I presume that is a standard tuned (G2-D2-A1-E1)! What set of strings are you using on it?

I had a bad accident and had injuries to my fretting hand and Back. I tried to play my stingray but was having many problems reaching 1st position. I tried I Warwick Corvette short scale. To bad I sold it. So I had Moses carbon fiber necks make to a custom neck for my stingray. The only thing the bass was to heavy. I decided to have public peace make me a custom bass one turn into 3 basses.

Love the sound of these basses. I since bought Mike Watt wattplower. A custom bass made for me by Cbasses.com one of the best basses I ever played. I still have 3. 34 scale basses but those are for my son. I'm going on 10 year from my accident, if i would have not gotten into this accident i would have not known how great it is to have a short scale bass. My latest addition is EBMM stingray, was little upset it had no active electronic. But for being passive it gots some big balls. These short scale basses are great I'm truly glad they make Short scale bass guitars.

What a collection of bass guitars! I have been drooling over those for a couple of days since I ran into this thread. Sorry about your accident, looks pretty nasty and I hope you have recovered. The best to you!

you've got all my admiration dude! not many people after yoru experience would keep on playing and fighting, they would just give up... hope you have recovered and I wish you all the best! congrats for the great colletion of basses btw :)

Guys I am thinkining of moving to a shorty, but I have a couple of doubts.
The reason behind by choice is that I have short arms and I struggle to play a 34'' bass. Despite I have been playing for several years now, my left hand gets cramps and I don't feel comfortable after a while. I have a 32'' acoustic bass and the situation is quite better in that case, hence my decision to try a 30'' out.
However, I have read that, due to the shorter scale, the strings must have a lower tension to get the same tuning, therefore the playing style should adapt to the new configuration and no everyone will feel at ease with this setup. Do you have advice on this? are the strings really "flaccid" os is it just a misconception?

Welcome to TB! Not all short scale basses have this issue, depends on the bass. Try a few out and see how it feels.

That really depends on the strings. If you use full scale strings cut to size, you may experience floppyness. If you use strings designed for shortys, the odds of this happening decreases tremendously.

I use short scale strings, and have not run across any "floppy" strings.

Unfortunately where I live there is only one music shop, and it does not offer any short scale basses, that's why I am asking here for some advice. I was thinking of buying one online without trying it in person, but perhaps it's a too risky decision...

Buy used so it's not too much of a financial risk.

how's the sound of the Mustang? I don't really like the look of it, but the quality should be good enough.
I also like the appearance and feel of maple fretboards, but in terms of sound quality ebony is better. If you find white ebony parts, those would be the best option if you like light coloured fretboards.

Thank you for the kind words. There's a lot other people out there on the internet with worst cases than mine that actually inspired me to keep playing. There's always some worst off than you. You just have to move on. Do the best you can . I'm just grateful to be alive. Rock on. Peace and love, God bless.
