Short scale or not

Hi im new in the forum and i want to know your opinion about the fender mustang and the hofner contemporary series, im thinking in buying one of these, sadly here in mexico there arent stores where i could try them, so my brother is going this holly days to Boston and im thinking in buying one, i play in an original rock band mainly with a fender presicion plus and a warwick $$.
Im interested in short scale because of the comfort and the diferent sound what do you think about this two basses? in your opinnion is a good sound for alternative rock??
And finally im goning tu buy a preamp/DI for my presicion plus which works beter the "tech 21 sans amp" the "Microbass II" or the one that "Aguilar" sells.

I'd go for the Hofner, just because it will expand your tonal options.

+1 for the Hofner, and of the preamps, the EBS Microbass II is the best-sounding and most versatile preamp/DI pedal I've ever heard.

I vote for the Mustang. Maybe you'll take to the violin type bass but considering what you play now the Hofner will probably feel really weird to you and it may take awhile getting used to it. Even though I still have one in my arsenal it's basically just a novelty... relatively speaking, of course.

Also the Hofner may have one more pickup and more controls than the Mustang it's like offering me variations of a tone that I don't really use very often. Wow, a whole case of Jolly Rancher's in dozens of flavors... to bad I'm a chocoholic.

The Mustang is something that I feel is more versatile... it's the P-bass of the short scales.

I also do really like the Sansamp as well as the Behringer BDI-21

I had both and liked both but kept the BDI-21.

my vote is going to the Hofner. I've played both and the hofners that i've played have less tension, lower action, and are much different tonally than a p-bass. I feel like if i were to go for a short scale, the hofner would be a top contender

The Mustang is an excellent feeling, comfortable, light weight bass. Especially compared to a Fender Precision.

I can't say that it's better but I've had mine for a couple of years and it's still working great. As for an A/B comparison, I used both the SansAmp and Behringer when gigging an old rig that didn't have an integrated DI in the head. The sound guys ALWAYS poo-pooed the Behringer and gave the thumbs-up to the SansAmp yet they never realized when I plugged in the Behringer instead of the SansAmp and still I got complements on my tone.
