Short scale Stingray!

Just Got my Music man stingray Short scale bass today. Very light, bright. I'm very impressed with this bass. Didn't have much time to play it . Have Family matters. But little I got to play it, Love the tone. Didnt even have time to get some pictures of this baby. Here's from NAMM show.
I did adjust the truss rod. Just a bit. Perfect. Dont need to be a brain surgeon to do this procedure. LOL.

Love my new SS Stingray. :hyper::drool::D
This bass sound Awesome. For being passive it has big balls.

I think I bought the last one available. I had to trade a bunch of stuff to guitar center that I didn’t want to part with including a Brubaker bass and a Teenage Engineering OP-1 but I really wanted this bass. I’m a little concerned about some of the experiences on here. Does anyone know if they’ll be making more for namm this year? Also did anyone happen to play the blue one that was on the floor at the Orem, Utah Guitar Center?

I've tried to be very fair in my assessment of this instrument. My issue was a flat out HORRIBELE, RIDICULOUS, set up. That can be dealt with, and once it was, a fine instrument. To my ears, it lacks just a little bit of the "authority" of it's bigger brother. But not much, and not enough to matter in a live mix, with it's very light weigh slung over your shoulder.
For a studio mix, I might favor a bigger brother.

I ordered the last blue/maple one that I was able to locate right before Christmas. It arrived last Wednesday. It's amazing. Beautiful, plays like a dream, sounds fantastic. Even better than I thought it was going to be. The shop I ordered from does a full setup on every guitar/bass that goes out the door and overall they did an excellent job. The G string sounds a bit weak compared to the rest but i measured and it's a bit higher than spec.

Thanks to everyone that posted reviews here (especially Joe Nerve) - I'd normally never buy a bass without playing it.

So will these be a regular production item?
If not, I would have to seriously wonder why. Seems only one person has not been happy with their purchase, and they kept and love the bass anyhow. And yes, I realize Talkbass isnt the entire bass playing world, but they sold out... and I've seen mostly over the top praise for this thing. If this WAS a test run, IMO and from what I've seen - it passed with flying colors.

Would love to see more, and more color options.

Waiting on the short scale Bongo now :) .

I ended up taking mine back at a pretty big loss to myself. I really liked the way the bass felt but there was a few things I couldn’t get over. Setup was bad, not what I would expect from a $2000 instrument and I didn’t have anymore money to invest in this bass. Fret ends were sharp, upper frets weren’t level. I had no problem with the action but I like high action usually. The passive setup is cool and I have been playing a passive bass exclusively for 3 years(Brubaker JXB standard), but it was really noisy and just not the sound I was looking for. I could see how some have mentioned this bass might not be suitable for recording. Also I really regretted selling my Brubaker. I just can’t go back to anything else after playing a Brubaker. Luckily Guitar Center happened to have a Brubaker NBS at ridiculously low price in stock and I ordered that. I’m almost certain they will make more of these and in the future. I will probably buy another when I can afford one especially if they offer an active version. My search for the perfect short scale continues.

I'm considering doing the same thing but whenever I pick it up and play it I love the size and shape and weight so much that I end up wanting to keep it. Also it's super pretty. But I agree about the frets and everything else you mentioned. I won't track with it anymore.

If you haven't already, check out the Reverend Wattplower. That is my go to for recording as requested by the mix engineer that I'm working with. Super great for recording and is my favorite short scale by far. I'm going to pick up the MKII when available and then maybe part with this SS Stingray.

I personally love a nice swamp ash / honey burst:

I actually had a custom neck made for my blue burst SLO stingray by Moses carbon fiber necks. The only thing was that the bass was still to heavy for Me. I sold it on Reverb. I was at NAMM show last year and saw that Short scale bass and fell in love. So picked one up before they sold out. Would really love some color options and active electronic. Here picture of my baby I let go. I even had Moses but Bigal on headstock. 20180916_103500.jpg

LOL. I loved that blue Burst. I was not doing the bass any justice by not playing it enough. The guy how brought it his name was Allen so it work out. Hated to see that baby go. In the end it all worked out. I cant put down my New SS stingray. I wish I could have gone to NAMM this year. But due to personal issues. Cant make it. That Music Man Booth was happening last year. Maybe next year. Praying for more SS Stingray in different colors. Any burst or transparent color would be awesome. :hyper::bassist::drool::thumbsup::)
