Short scale Stingray!

The starry night is really a cut above last years colors. I had one in the Sweetwater cart last year when preorders went up but didn’t pull the trigger. Of course they were all gone the next day.

Realistically will probably get the sterling. Had been eyeing the cutlass in blue/maple a few years back so this may scratch that itch.

The new colors are sweet but I would like to see some classics too.

By QC issues, do you mean setup or build quality? I’m happy to do the setup myself, but at this price point, I expect build quality to be excellent.

My initial reaction when I got the instrument below...

I just dropped off my SS Stingray to get set up properly and will get it back next week because it requires a lot of work. I know Ernie Ball (or maybe TB users of EB) always brag about having such great setups out of the box but both my Sterling H and this SS Stingray (both 2019 editions) needed some major setup work from the factory - much more than my American Pro Precision. My Reverend Wattplower actually required the least setup. I'm looking forward to seeing how much nicer the SS Stingray is after a proper setup. When I first got it, I tried changing the pickup configurations and the knob to switch between 3 settings immediately broke off on my first go, so I haven't even heard the different positions yet. The guys at the bass shop told me that my brand new Sterling required all sorts of fret leveling that my other basses didn't require as well. A bummer for both $2K+ instruments when my Wattplower was much less in cost. But that being said, mine is under 7 lbs and doesn't neck dive. It's worth it to me to see it through and see what all the fuss is about.

Bummed that the SS Stingray I purchased is no longer considered "special" or one of 100, but glad to see that it will be kept alive as an option for all. Luckily I still think the blue with maple neck is the best looking of the bunch.
I'm bummed that I didn't wait it out (my wife actually, as she got it for me)...

I REALLY want a starry night. And I'm not a big fan of my current color. Was seriously considering painting it. It's a beautiful color for sure (the blue), but I'm a fan of black, white and grays these days. Sparkle is an added bonus.

I love these basses and this thread. As soon as I get home from the work trip I'm on I'm preordering a Sterling at my local GC. Taking back the white PJ Mustang I just bought. (Probably going to buy one of the new PJ Mustang colors though)

Interesting. What is the build quality typically like on Sterlings in this price range? How about the pickups? At least on my Ibanez basses, I find that I can get the build quality, electronics, and stiffening rods I like for about 1,000 USD (the cheapest Premium models), which is why I didn’t pull the trigger on the SS Stingray.
