I feel for you buddy I've had my left shoulder rebuilt but and both hips replaced but they say they can't help with the arthritis in my hands.

I don't do green. I don't even wear green clothes.I've played a couple of Jr. Jets and I liked them a lot. Really fun. A little murkier down low than my Squier Mustang, but it makes serious sounds. Looking at Reverb, it seems like the green ones are back in stock! That's the way to go!
I did reply to you but for some reason it went under a different reply. Anyhow it's the arthritis that's getting my hands so the short scale will be the pace to go and I'm leaning toward the Gretsch.for me it's my L shoulder, but same result = always looking at the short (or medium) scales and trying to follow what fellow TB'ers are getting into.
so, i don't have good advice (or even an opinion), but i'd sure like to know how this works out for you --- so please follow up and share what you get/learn and any 'surprises'. good luck on your quest!![]()
Thanks for the info. Heal up fast.I have used the Gretsch Jr Jet II, Epiphone Rumblekat, Epiphone EB0, Squier Jag SS, Ibanez Mikro, Silvertone Model 1444, Kay Truetone and Hofner Ignition Club. The Hofner gets the most work by far.
I'm currently working on a bass using a light Paulownia Telecaster body and Ibanez Mikro neck for it's better ergonomics so I can continue gigging while I heal from a minor stroke.

From their report on this bass I would spend as much on refinishing and replacing worn and rusted parts as for the bass itself. Vintage doesn't always mean better.
Steve, it looks like you are close to Tampa. Even though you said 350 range, I think you should drive over to the Guitar Center in Tampa and check out the Fender Mustang PJs they have in stock.
The have the Ibanez Mikro and Squier Bronco in stock as well.
I just switched to short scale for the same reasons you are.
The Ibanez Talman tmb30 is nice. I think the stock pickups are really nice but the neck was a bit wider than I like further up the neck. The Mikros they have at the Tampa Guitar Center have the same specs as the tmb30 so at least you can play one and know how it's going to feel, albeit with a shorter scale on the Micro.
Anyhow my point is, if fretting hand Comfort is what you're after, I think it would serve you well to actually play some short scale models to see which feel most comfortable for you.
As far as AMS, I have found they will haggle with you a bit so if you go that route with the Gretsch it won't hurt to ask.
If you do make the trip to Tampa and happened to dig the Mustang PJ, AMS and zZounds both let you spread payment out in 8 monthly installments without interest.
Good luck where you land !
I’ve got a fender mustang (which I just gave to a friend because although it sounds pretty good I never really enjoyed it because the esthetics just put me off) and two Hofners The Hofners are quite nice. The CT500 is a better all-around bass - lots of boom but a bit more definition than the ignition. Hofner are light weight, easy on the fingers but of course, there’s that Beatle thing.
I was referring to the audience. Hey, he’s playing a Beatle bass! As far as I am concerned it’s just another bass.I use the Hofner Club version...it has zero Beatles association and it's more ergonomic for me while playing either standing or sitting.
re-issue Danelectro Longhorns can be had in your price range.
I LOVE mine.
But an EB3 is on the way....

Dude, you should snap this puppy up. Looks like all it needs is a tuner on the D string: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I couldn't agree more! I was looking for something SS to teach my grandkids on and I recently picked up a used Squier SS Jaguar on Austin Craig's List for $70. It looks beautiful, I couldn't believe the condition for the $. I restrung it and used it the other night on my first set and it performed quite admirably. I was pleasantly surprised. I spent more for a case than the bass, lol.If you open yourself up to buying used, you'll have a lot more options in your price range. A used Ibanez Talman, Squier Mustang or Squier Jaguar should be under $350.
Yes, I thought that might be true because their warehouses are all in the same location.PSA: AMS, zZsounds and Same Day Music are all owned by the same company and when you call any of those websites your call goes to the same call center.
