you'd be happy to trust two 5 cent pieces of plastic screwed into plasterboard to hold up a $2000 Bass?

Yup. For the past 6 years I've been at this house. And three of these hangers on the same wall. Like I said, never had a problem.

A 2000 dollar bass rarely weighs more than a 1000 dollar or even a 500 dollar one, so I find that point a little silly.

I think alot of you have incorrect notions of how strong the combination of the drywall, the footprint of the hanger and the drywall mollys actually are, when they're actually all working together to keep precious safely hung. The mollys grip and compress-lock the drywall, the footprint of the hanger disperses the weight ( a minimal weight it really is, too), and the very weight of said bass makes it more stable.

I'm sure the string swing co. wouldn't still be in business if their product, as designed, and as installed per packaging, would consistently fail. They don't fail. Accept that. How much longer are we gonna perpetuate the myth that this is a weak assembly?

Why? If you use the drywall mollys, there should be no problem.

Drywall mollys would be secure. I've seen people take stuff like wall hangers and just use wood screws and screw them into the sheetrock. The people who lived in my house before me mounted most things that way. Not very secure.
