I was just looking at that last set of photos again, the two pix from post 14. The [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] in particular interests me.

In reading the descriptions of what had gone wrong with this bass, I thought that the neck butt had separated from the button. That appears not to be the case. Instead it looks like the button's cracked. From the look of the lacquer at the neck seam it looks like the neck's moved a bit -- or something's moved.

I'm curious -- could this be the result of the thing being hit?

nope not even a bump in the time ive had it, i take extremely good care of all my instruments, there investments after all. the crack wasn't there when i first recieved the bass, and im not 100% sure when it started , i just noticed it yesterday morning when i was going over it with a microfiber polishing cloth. the pictures do make the rest of the joint look pretty bad , but i dont see any cracking in there, just ugly poly.

FWIW, I've re-done hundreds of neck joints on basses of all price ranges. It seems that many, many made basses suffer from either: 1) poorly fitted neck joint; looks fine from the outside, big gaps on the inside, a time bomb; or 2) neck is misaligned to the body, requiring uneven bridge legs or bridge placed off-center. Another problem is that many commercial basses are necked with white or yellow glue, both of which "creep" over time and do not attain the hardness of hide glue which is preferable for tone transfer. Hey, good name for a band, "Tone Transfer"!

Well I just got back from a grammer lesson as well as taking the bass back to the shop. They agreed that it's a bunk joint and are setting up another christopher 300 for me that I'll be picking up tomorrow afternoon. Lets hope this one had a little mor attention paid to it at the factory. Thanks again for all you're help and advice.

See the attached image or Invalid Link Removed for a close up. Look at all that space below, all Kays fall into the time bomb catagory unless the block is corrected.

Well I got my replacement today.It feels alot different to be sure, unfortunatly its a little quieter than the other one i had, maybe that will change over time im not sure.Well thanks again for your help everyone. Perhaps I'll wait a few months for it to settle down then take it in for another adjustment and see what results that will yeild.
