Should i buy a PBass for 350?

Just went to guitar center again tonight and really sat down and played it through a couple different amps they had there. (fender rumble 2x10 combo, a hartke 115 combo, a gk rb700 and 4x10 and the svt classic with a 810 and then the randy jackson markbass head and a little mark III head with my own personal earcandy bassbomb 2x12)

I took my 212 in with hope of trading it it and getting some money knocked off the price. I knew they were gonna low ball me but not as bad as the actual price they said. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. I even explained i planned on buying easily the ammont they offered me for the cab in extra stuff (gigbag new strings strap locks ect) and the manager simple would not work with me on it. So i took my ball and went home with a bad taste in my mouth about that guitar center. Either way, i'll post my 212 on here any maybe one day somebody will buy it for a reasonable price for a killer 212.

Old man's bass? I don't know about that but I will say that for me, I've been playing jazz style basses for most of my 28 years playing and I was always fighting to get a good sound; either live or in the studio. A few years ago (coincidentally when I had just turned 40!) I got a P bass and I finally learned that certain basses sound better for certain people. I now can effortlessly get MY tone. I changed the neck to a jazz profile since that suits me better but it's still a P bass sound wise.

Don't fight liking Fenders based on preconceived ideas. It's the same as other people liking Fenders because their popular or because so many play them. If that P bass speaks to you, go for it. The price is definitely right!

But i feel like buying a pbass is like setteling. To me, it's a old man bass. But they always sound good, Untill i play one. I keep eyeballing a American Special Fender. The black on red with a maple fretboard. Looks amazing. Sounds horrible. Maybe it's me just not knowing how to eq a pbass right.

My rig is a fender tbp-1 into a crown xls1500. no pedals. and my cabs very between a 2 earcandy bassbomb 2x12, a fender bassman 410 and matching 115 (the series before the newest ones out,) or the older fender bassman 2x15 (or Sunn 2x15 with fender badges)

Growing up, I was never interested in having a P bass, even though some pros I really liked played one. In college, a friend had one and I'd use it for class gigs. In a band setting, the P bass is just like slipping on a perfectly-broken-in pair of jeans. It finds the spot in the band where it needs to be, settles in there, and does its job.

After college, when I had the money for a halfway decent bass, I bought an Ibanez and hated it. As much as I'd looked forward to having one, I was bitterly disappointed with almost everything about it. Today, my P bass copy is my favorite instrument. It just goes where I point it without any drama.

I've been playing 45 years and have had many basses. I always gravitate back to a Fender Am Std P or Am Std Jazz. Right now I have them both in sunburst with tort and RW. The style of music both of my bands play REQUIRES a Fender. When you play a lot of gigs and mature you will probably realize a P Bass is nice to have.

You are legitimately turning down an instrument you find excellent at a great price because of some odd perception of said instrument only being suitable for geriatric old bass players, regardless of the fact that it is played universally by any and all walks of musicians?

Your call I guess... :hiding:
