In my experience, wives are easier to slip a new bass past than mothers are....Moms know everything. I don't think we can pull the old sneak-a-roo on this one. My strategy would be to drive everyone crazy for a week or so talking about nothing but THAT bass. Once your level of obsession is fully understood, you'll have Mom's blessing to go get it.

That is what I was thinking. Don;t get me wrong; I like this bass and I would play iy all day long but I do not think it sounds much like a jazz bass.

I can't help you with the mom thing. I will say that if you like the weight feel and tone of the Cort -even though it's nothing like a jazz- you should ignore the folks telling you to get a jazz bass.

A Jazz bass is a nice instrument but it will be bigger, heavier and sound allot different from a more contemporary bass like the Cort or an Ibanez soundgear.

I do agree though with those who say play allot of basses before you pick one.

I’d venture to say that your mom knows more about you than you do about the bass. I’m equally sure her advice has implications beyond this single transaction. Demonstrate that you understand where she is coming from and you are halfway home.

I had a dean edge, cheap starter bass. I wanted to upgrade in 2006, my dad frowned on it and didnt really put effort into driving me to the music store to buy it. So I rode my bike there and bought it with my own money, Fender PJ bass and the main style of bass I use this day.

I was at the local music shop the other day, and I saw an interesting looking bass on the wall. Asked to see it, fell in love with it within 5 minutes. Given the features and the amazing tone, I couldn't believe its price of only $500 U.S. It's the Cort C4 Plus ZBMH (not OTAB)

Here's the thing, I want to buy it, I have the funds, and I've been searching for a good j-bass for a while, but my mother does not want me to buy it because she thinks it is a rash/reckless purchase. My current bass came as part of a learning kit with combo amp, cord, the whole deal, but it just doesn't cut it after 7 years experience. Also it's a p-bass, which some people do like, I just don't - not as well as j-basses at least. To some degree, I see her point of view, but at the same time, I know that I'll never find another bass just like it. Anyone want to give opinions?View attachment 2978448

It's a modern bass. A Jazz bass has Jazz pickups and the shape of a Fender. Precision and Jazz basses are Fender products. Leo Fender invented them. Everything that's not a Fender has been an imitation, or improvement since 51(P) and 60(J) when the guitars themselves were created, produced, and sold. Back then, he had a single coil pick up in it though. He later decided to split the coil to try and even the tone across the strings. It worked. The split was born, and the P hasn't changed since.

Great advice, and it’s restrained me from many impulsive purchases that I know now I would have regretted later.

However, a soundman that I worked with told me that “sometimes part of being wise with gear purchases is knowing when to jump on a good deal quickly”.

It sounds like you’ve outgrown your first bass and need to start playing as many basses as you can get your hands on to narrow down what you want your next instrument to me. Something tells me that if you miss out on that Cort then the salesperson there can probably order you another on if you can’t order it yourself.

I have been playing Fender Jazz basses for a long time..always American models..but thats just me..I like the jazz basses a lot..but I never love a musical instrument..and thats just me..if you want to get a jazz bass..by all means do so..but I gotta tell you..there are better choices out there than the cort..actually..that cort is not a jazz bass..but if you like and want the cort..it just may be the instrument for you..at one time I had around 10 basses..now I only have 3..and I keep these 3 because I like everything about them..which means a lot to me....the cort instruments are what most consider to be an off brand..and they are not in high demand..I would think they are not even in medium demand..how many do you ever see appear on stage at a live show..?..especially with the big boys..since there is little demand for cort..resale is not good..also..I personally dont like the 2 and 2 machine head placement..I want all the tuners in a row..also..I can never remember a moment where I thought.."man I sure would like to have a cort bass"..and some other bass players will secretly make fun of you if you are seen with a cort..back years ago a lot of people dhyed away from peavey basses..especially when surrounded by fenders and gibsons..the joke used to be that "peavey is ibanez spelled backwards"..and we would all laugh..and look at each other..to make sure everyone else was also laughing..those were the days..anyway..if you are a jazz bass guy..like I am..get the real thing..at least get one with an "F" on it..for a little more money you can get a good used american fender jazz..and even less money will get you a good used mexican made fender jazz..for $600 you can buy a shiny new fender mexican jazz bass with a warranty.....and since you can get this through amazon interest free for one year..and free shipping..why pay cash....heres the link....I like it so much..I may get me another one..one last mention..a bass only sounds as good as the amp you play through..you dont need anything big or expensive..but that single 10 inch speaker will give your bass a poor representation..you might want to go to a 2x10 cabinet..or add a 12 inch cabinet to the 1x10 that you already have if possible..https://www.amazon.com/Fender-Stand...=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B005L2UIWM

Well, I "Liked" it. Not that i agreed with everything he said. In particular, the original poster (Mister Frisbee) said he doesn’t like the feel of Fenders, so no need for him to get a Fender then or to encourage him to get one — Mister Frisbee should of course get something he wants and will enjoy.

However, I thought Blaze Barlow’s comment of "...the joke used to be that "peavey is ibanez spelled backwards"..and we would all laugh..and look at each other..to make sure everyone else was also laughing..those were the days" was funny as heck and deserved a big ‘ol "Like"

(Nothing against Peavey, I just thought that was a good joke, plus a good reaction. I don’t even understand exactly what it means, but I know it cracked me up...)
