Double Bass Should i get a 1/2 or a 3/4?

Well i found this bass (upright of course) at my local music store and i've been wanting to dive into upright for a long time (being a jazzer, using electric just doesn't feel right to me sometimes) and compared to other uprights i've seen, its smaller, so i'm making the assumption here that its a 1/2 sized bass as opposed to the 3/4 bass i've played before.

Now before anyone says anything, yes i have a teacher and i've been practicing with him. However, its getting annoying that i always have to borrow basses, and i want one of my own to practice on.

This Bass in question is 700 and i'll probably get my teacher to try it out himself for a second opinion, but i have 2 questions.

1. should i get the bass if he says its good despite it not being the standard size or wait, save up and get the standard size?

2. Is there actually any difference in sound between a 1/2 and a 3/4 bass?

Also correct me if i'm wrong in anything i said. This is my first post on the DB side of TB. :D

To answer your questions:

1- I'd be surprised if your teacher supports buying a bass other than the size that is right for you- ymmv of course.

I would suggest waiting for an appropriately sized instrument.

2- Yes, all other things "equal", meaning the only difference is their respective sizes (not comparing a ply to a carved for example) the 3/4 bass should have a bigger, "better" sound.

Hope this helps!
