Back in the early 1970's we used to buy SRO's from Massimino Music on the east side of Detroit. We used them for everything.

I can imagine how awesome that must have sounded. Twangy basses + slightly dirty amps + EVM12Ls rocks. I have thin Rotos on my Alembic, and thinnish Golds on my Mouradian and they were both wicked, but since I didn't biamp I didn't have the lows.

The SRO predated the EVM, it had a fabulous high end but no bottom at all. The frame was very delicate, it could easily be bent out of alignment causing voice-coil rub. It was really a beefed up hi-fi driver, not quite up to the task, the EVM was designed from the ground up for MI use.

Well, I ended up with a 4-ohm 15B, which I have loaded by itself in the Musicman cabinet. I have a 15L and a 15B, both 8 ohms in parallel in the other cab. I may buy one of this guy's extra 8-ohm 15Ls for about $40 so I can have both options.

I ended up paying 75 bucks for the recone.

I have to say, the 15B sounds really good by itself. Not as much treble as the 15L, but it has a smoother sound that works very nicely with my amp. Both of these speakers are very very punchy and have strong midrange. All I have right now to play through them is my tube head, which distinctly colors the sound, but when I get my solid-state head back (and buy a Sunn Concert Bass tomorrow), I'll say more.

I'm a huge fan of the B.

Running two of 'em in TL606 boxes powered by a SWR 350 (redface.) Just plain works great live for fingerstyle in a country / rock setting.

Couldn't be happier. GAS free!

They roll off by 4KHz. A CD played through them sounds just like a good AM radio station. If your playing style branches beyond fingerstyle, my enthusiasm for the B diminishes.

Does anyone know why the boogie 2-15 has 2 separate cavities? I was under the impression that 2-15's in same box was more efficient.. wondering if would be ok to run an evB in bottom and a evL in top of this boogie 2-15? since they are 2 separate cavities!

isn't the 200s cab a little smallish for an EV?
I have a dean marlkey 200s clone w/baffle-face mounted speakers.. came with force 15's and am wondering how some L's would work? in what I estimate to be approx 2cf cab (per side) such as the 200s (is kinda hard to calculate internal dimensions because of the slant)
the one I have may have a little more internal volume than a sunn because i think sunn's are rear baffle mounted.

I have a pair of 15B's that I have been using in TL606 cabs (basically, what Mesa used for the Diesel . . . ) as PA bottoms/subs, and they have been through hell and back, and have not failed or suffered any cone damage . . . . EVM's are, at least in my experience, one of the most durable drivers that I have ever used . . . .

I have used 15B's for years and they've always been the most durable. Not to mention, the sound of an EVM has yet to be replicated by any other speaker, most especially any of the Eminence 15's.

I would say if your looking for what a " 10 " could never do its a EV15L

as for the choice between B or L

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe,

I recently had five EVMs, two B and three L, in Mesa cabinets which were somewhat disassembled and I wanted to keep just two. For my ear, the L was the winner. Curiously, it was because the highs were smoother, less edgy. Go figure. EVM15s are the bomb fork musicality.
