should I get my bass signed?

I would never get a bass signed. Maybe a crap bass and i would try to collect as many signatures on that as i could.
But if you want your bass signed go ahead man lots of people do it.
Just have him sign it somewhere you'd like the signature to be. It won't do anything to your sound or something so it doesn't really matter where he signs it.
Also tell him hi from me :p

I personally don't see the point in getting a bass signed, unless it were a signature model or something. Doesn't he play a Warwick?

But, If you are so inclined, I's take the pickguard and a sharpie of a contrasting color. Just my opinion of course.

+1 on the pickguard. Easiest way to remove it and keep it safe. A friend of mine was able to share a stage with Tito Puente once (I know, he was a percussionist) and he signed my buddy's guitar behind the headstock. Signature is safe and he still gigs the guitar.

You could always have him sign it somewhere not visible to everyone else but you'd still know it was there. For example, if I ever had the opportunity to get one of my heroes to sign my bass, I've planned on bringing the plastic back cavity cover and have them sign the inside. Super safe and very inconspicuous. And added bonus, a small piece of plastic is alot easier to haul around to the signing then an entire bass.

i had King's X sign my first bass, a beautiful wood grain Washburn. saw them at a smallish venue and after they were all just chillin' signing stuff and talking to fans so i ran to my car and got my bass. another dude saw me and thought it was a good idea and went and got his bass!

looking back, i wish i'd had them sign in different places but that bass has since been retired and given to my nephew as a gift. it looks killer hanging on the wall!

I once saw Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan at a show in a smaller venue. Lots of people were hitting Steve up for an autograph. He was very cool about it. A bunch of guys were asking him to sign the front of their guitar. He said he would be glad to do that if they insisted, but suggested signing the back of the head stock in stead so they could spray something over it and it wouldn't show when they were playing it. Billy was doing pretty much the same thing. They were both really cool guys and jumped the security fence to hang out with the crowd for over an hour.
