I'm starting to think I'd make a pretty good DJ. I've done a bit of it, I genuinely like a lot of danceable popular music, have pretty good instincts for what will go over and what won't, and I know a drummer I could learn the rest of the basic skills from. So, really, why not buy a laptop and throw Virtual DJ on it?

Why not?

I'll probably DJ mostly during my bands' set breaks and at house parties - I'm not planning to do anything much more serious than that. I don't need a part-time job which requires working until 4 AM or 6 AM. So, definitely not planning to give up the bass.

Here's the most positive thing that's likely to happen: I find out that Ugandan dancehall, Nigerian hip-hop and Mongolian electro don't go over well, finally stop pestering my bandmates about learning some.

DJing can be fun, and a good way to earn a bit of money on the side.

that said, a lot of stuff i've done has been mixed band/club nights... let's just say i definitely prefer to have a bass (or drumsticks) in my hands when the lights go up.
