Should I, o should I?

As to the fact that you feel "everything" on the Korean-made Toby is better then your European Spector, the only logical way I can attribute that is to say "we all hear what we want to hear". You want the Toby, therefore you'll think that every single angle is better, regardless of the truth of the matter.

Nick, obviously you're going to do what you want to do (play "spin the bottle" with basses, ignore the fact that your amp doesn’t do justice to whatever bass you happen to be playing, blame the Spector on your hand problems with it's much more likely an issue of technique, ect…) regardless of the advice given by a great many people - collectively with a metric ton of seasoned experience much more than you have, who by now are biting their tongues at the disrespect you've shown them. This begs the question:

Why do you bother asking in the first place?

NO, don't get the Toby. If you go to [Invalid or Expired Link Removed], you'll see how the luthier who built my bass had to give a Toby Pro a fret level, new nut, and replace the electronics just to get it in good shape. You've got your blinders on when you enter a store full of nice gear, so you're not going to notice all the problems something may have.

And I'll just reiterate what everyone has said, but I'll use the fancy bold type so maybe it'll hit home-your amp is a BEGINNER'S PRACTICE AMP. If you're going to spend your time buying gear instead of practicing, that's perfectly fine, but at least coordinate it so that you have evenly good gear. You can find an amp of equal or better quality of that Toby bass for the same price. Put up a thread in the Amps forum and ask some UKers if they can help you locate a store or online dealer, because if you can't find a decent amp for the price you're willing to spend on the Toby, then you're not looking. And hey, if you wanted, you could (shudder to think) save the money your father would have spent on the Toby for your birthday, combine it with more savings you could make, and buy a really, really nice amp.

And again, please stop asking us questions if you're just going to ignore the answers.

What amp does he have anyway?

Like, you mention your basses one by one in detail, and then you go:

"my amp"

Get amplification dude...a B needs power and a good speaker to acctually not sound like an intestinal crisis.

Nick - i will be more than happy to help you buy a new amp. You know that I've just splashed the cash on a brand new Ashdown rig, and I believe i know about every amp there is in the UK right now... pro's and cons etc. Just let me.

You dont need another bass, you have too many already, and no matter how many times you tell me over IM how great your thumb is, its still only sounding like 1/10th of how it would sound through a half decent amp.

Listen to us - we know what we're talking about.

OK OK. I'll stick with the spector for a BIT, and get a new amp. If toasted can help me find a new amp, that'd be great, as I'm dumb with amps. As for what scarred2112 said about me only hearing/seeing what I want to, perhaps you're right. Perhaps I don't like warwick and spector, and should sell all those and go and get the first bass I really liked, a Musicman Stingray? bleeeeh

Hang on a minute, I do earn £72 a month so I'll save for a 6 months, and have about £400(c'mon, i gotta spend SOME money!). SO that'd be a definate help, but for now the Fender will do.

And you'd use your birthday money to go towards that amp as well, right?????

I did, I played them both through an Ampeg SVT 8x10, and the Toby blew the Spector away. No contest. It had more punch, better electronics, everything was just better, it's also thru neck. My spector has EMG pickups too, but it still lost to the Toby. I got my dad to stand away from the amp(from an audiences point of view) and he said that the Toby was a lot better, and that I could perhaps get it for my birthday. Well, my birthday is coming up, and I feel this bass is a better 5 string than the Spector. I don't know when to get a new amp.....they're very expensive, and I don't know hwere I can get a cheap one in England.
Nick, what would of been better in that situation is to either of had your dad or someone else who plays bass play it while YOU stood away from it and listened. You and your dad's opinions can somewhat differ.

Nick - you need a new amp. YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.YOU NEED A NEW AMP.

Are you hearing me?

You just need a Flashy amp... With a AAAAA Flamed Maple top. You like Flashy expensive stuff, I can tell by how you sound... Here is a Little Trick in basses...

A Good amp will Better a Crappy Bass...

A GREAT bass in a CRAPPY amp will sound Like crap...
A Crappy Bass in a GREAT amp will sound a lot better...

I too need a good amp, and I already have decient basses... So I know what you mean, I am thinking of a Stingray Myself with some cash and selling off my Lakland.

But That wont help me sound better And I know that. And you should too.

Is it just me, but this guy "suffers" from "ADD". Maybe all this arguing is what he wants! If everybody is fed up of his constant thread starting about how he wants this, and I saw this in a shop my dad bought it for me! Then why can't you ignore him! Eventually, hopefully one of the Mods will lock this thread like many of the rest. Cause tbh it is starting to p!55 me off!
