should i open a store and sell instruments

I'd DEFINITELY consider a 5 string in the shape of that cut-out. When are they going to be available? Shoot me a PM or email.... [email protected]

yep will be done in 5-6-7 string. i dont know if the 36 frets will apply to all
but it's gona be more expenssive because
-EMG pops
-hipshot A TYPE (19.0mm)
-GB7 Tunners

i think it should go around $600.00 for a 5 made here

i could do it 100% chinese , would retail for about $350.00

the one i'm getting done in the states A LOT MORE EXPENSSIVE
-wenge / pupleheart theck thru
-blood wood fretboard
-0.500 thick top (wings_ quilted maple) on wenge
-Delano custom pops / and pre
-hipshot bridge
-7 string / 36 frets

cost of build : around 2k

this one is my peronnal baby

good point!!...

i designed this a few days ago , 7 strings , 36 frets

2 companies (one in China the other in the states) are building the first ones....

differwece : alot less cheaper in china could be mass produced
(this is a neck thru 7 pces neck , 19.0mm string spacing at bridge)
maple , rosewood , ash

tell me what you think , this is not an SX or Rondo.

What about a 7-string with fanned frets (37"-33") and smaller string spacing in that shape?

-fanned frets , no (would have to redesighed the entire plan....)
-string spacing....probably 17.5 for the china made .

-but for the ones made here , it will be 19.0

Given that you have more intimate knowledge of these basses than anyone here...

Would you say that they are of Wishbass quality? That if one were to spend some quality time re-finishing the bass, touching up the fretwork, and upgrading electronics, these would turn out to be damn-fine basses?

If so, and you're willing to spend some extra time changing the design to account for a fanned fret (and probably a change in pickups too, but I don't know what pickup you're using), I'd definitely be interested. You could probably charge another $50 on top of the selling price to cover your design changes.

im not sure how you import these basses (i.e. if they will only send you a quantity of basses first and not just order them when a customer wants one...?) but you could make your "storefront" your website (sorry if already said that and I didnt catch it). So no overhead costs.

i dont have to carry inventory (big plus) and i dont have to spend any money i can do this at home , if it grows greate, if it doesnt..well didnt cost much

In the words of Warren Buffet, "Take chances when everyone else is fearful, be fearful when everyone else is taking chances." He's done OK for himself.

Go for it.

Wishbass like , no .. i hear too much negative stories about wishbass...the company that will build them used to build some of the big name, .. i asked them to build me 2 necks to see the quality and there where some really minor stuff like the nut wasnt perfect..but's thats about it.. the finishes are really good.

as for designs change, for now i cant ask my manufacture to build multiples or one off's . it would be too much time consuming. i want to start with the model shown above, do a 4-5-6 version, do the best quality possible for the price. if it catches on greate! i'll do more designs. if not , well i had fun with it.

pickups is something else...i have 2 choices here, go with a chinese made electronic and pops. or go with EMG...BUT using EMG will increse the price by about $200.00 (final price would be around $550.00...for a 6 er.

i could also install a Delano custom made pop (imo the best pops on the market, look and ear james hart's bee bass) but it will be alot more expenssive. about 1300.00 retail..but that's not the goal here..loll

i am in Canada , if you wanna know....

as for economical times.. it wouldnt be a good time if i had invested $20.000.00...but i didnt. i guess i have to take the chance.

the goal with this is to offer something different to the avarage player i know money is an issue for everyone. and if the table was turned, i would buy my basses.

Understandable, but if you guys were willing to try a one-off and tack on a bit of a premium, I might very well be interested.

Seeing as Dingwall just came out with a production fanned-fret bass, I could see it generating a bit of a market for fanned frets, so a 4/5/6/7 version of that bass could be offered as well. Just some food for thought at a later date.

Hi friends i need advice

i am thinking of opening an ebay store and sell imports (basses and guitars), i know the supplier very well , and quality is ok for beginers

i just wonder if it's a good market to tap in, i mean i dont know anyone who has these ''types'' of instruments.

any comments on this:help:
without reading the whole thread.....in a word no .......if you have sat down, crunched the numbers, surveyed your market, and checked every detail you would know the answer without asking us.....

if you bought and sold the odd bass on ebay while you learned the ropes you would have a better shot at success and limit your potential loss

You are right! i'm not saying i'll never do fanned frts, but for the first model i will stick to the plan (my model) it should be out in January, after that who knows!:p

Ah, okay. I was looking to have this project started by the end of the year. I look forward to seeing your stuff.

i have to say , the first time you mentioned fanned fret i was kinda suprised..i really didnt think much about them and to tell you the truth , for some reason they scared the living **** out of me

but after looking deeper in the fanned fretboard option, yeah i think this is a greate idea. (i cant wait to see how the Chinese will react on the subject....this will be fun to explain)

i will try to keep the same bass shape, and see how a can do this
