Should I open my new bass immediately?

I think the real reason to wait 24 hours is to prevent checking in nitro finishes and avoid the rare finish crack in a poly finish. This will happen when the instrument sits in the cold, cold for an extended period and then hits warm air suddenly. If it's summer time or above 60, open right away. If the instrument sat on your doorstep in freezing temps for an extended period, maybe let it warm up slowly.

Older vintage basses had a finish that when they went from very cold to much warmer the finish would "check"

Our local FedEx Home Delivery guy has air.

John

Yeah, they don't count. I purposely didn't mention them... all the vans in my area are a typical cargo, or minivan... their windows are always up... winter, or summer...

I'm a mail carrier, our "a/c" is an 8" fan that just circulates hot air... basically a convection oven on wheels...
Our heat in the winter... :roflmao::roflmao: .. if it actually decides to work, is useless, because they don't blow enough to matter, plus we have to have the window open.

I would unpack it very slowly.

First I check for dents, and then slowly unpack the delivery slip, read it in a whispered tone.

Then I would run my fingers along every seam, looking for the places where I could separate the tape without being rough on the package.

Then I would very slowly unzip the flaps where I know there is another layer of protective material, keeping the precious object out of sight and reach a little longer.

Then I would slip it out of the box, slowly and carefully removing the remaining packaging.

Then I would attentively undo the zipper/unfasten the clasps.

Finally, I would examine every surface and curve very closely, and then plug it in and take it for a drive at slowly increasing volumes, playing with each knob and button until I am fully satisfied.

This man has made passionate love to countless women. I was gonna say it in a more vulgar way, but the forums censor such verbiage.
