Contrary to popular TB trope, you actually CAN play in a cover band and not play "music people dance to". And the audience in places to do so, CAN actually consist of more than 3 sad drunks ... Having said that, from your OP it doesn't sound like you want to take this gig. Why bother asking?

Getting a gig is the easy part, getting a very good gig, way more difficult.
Not sure what the cover band has that would keep me doing more than a couple of subs from what you described?

If you need strangers to help you decide, it sounds like a garbage gig. The only music worth playing is music that excites you, or music that pays your bills. This is clearly neither of those things.

Pros= rehearsal is a close drive, less than 15 minutes. Easy set/up tear down, I only bring my bass. Songs are easy to learn. Musicians are good not great.

Help me decide. I play at church 2x a month, and an original band to write with as well currently 1x weekly. This cover band is 1 bass player away from getting a crappy bar gig, what to do??
