Take the time off to recover - I don't mean bass. I mean everything else. My buddy just had shoulder surgery 3 months ago. He didn't do anything right. I believe he re-injured it installing a water heater. He has to get his shoulder completely redone again. He's back to square one. Surgery is next week.
Fortunately I was able to get in with the Rogue Invitational and Crossfit Team Surgeon. He has operated on far more successful athletes than I!I'm an OR manager, I see a lot of surgery. I see repeats for patients that don't follow post-op instructions.
If they're a good doc, just follow their instructions to a T, you'll be good.
I was an A’s fan as well (until, you know, what happened) and got to meet Dave Parker at PNC Park in Pittsburgh 15 years ago. Great, charismatic guy.I just want to wish you all the very best. I have been dealing with frozen shoulder for a little over a year, but have not needed surgery. I hope all goes well for you, and that your doctors proscribe bass playing as a form of physical therapy.
Also, I loved Dave Parker on my Oakland As when I was a kid.
Not being able to play catch was one of the reasons I wanted to get this procedure done. Having a catch with my dad is something we do every summer, but we couldn’t this year because of my arm, and he isn’t exactly a spring chicken. Hopefully the summer of 2026 we can bring it back. He has a decent arm for 80 years old.Told my doctor that I was looking forward to playing catch with my adult son. They told me the best I would ever do is to throw like a girl.
The mechanics of my new shoulder won’t allow me to reach back far enough to really hum one. Oh well, I can play bass and fish, pretty sure I’ll be okay. I hope for a quick and complete recovery for the OP and anyone else suffering from joint or muscle pain
Very true. I am glad I was able to hit my big training goal for this year (400lb deadlift) *before* my surgery.I wrote above to do your rehab excercises religiously (even if you fall off schedule or results start slipping short of what you’d hoped — ya still gotta keep going to fight to retain the recovery you have achieved).
But I wanted to add: BUT, don’t overdo it. This isn’t the time to go Hercules on stuff. The rehab excercises are small and boring and don’t seem to do much. If you’re the gym rat type, you might be tempted to do more (perhaps much more) than what the doctor or physical therapist said. But overdoing it can be just as bad as skipping the rehab excercise. So, just do as was prescribed. Slow and steady, sticking with it; marathon not a race![]()
You absolutely have to do the PT. It is comprehensive and well thought out.Very true. I am glad I was able to hit my big training goal for this year (400lb deadlift) *before* my surgery.
I hope between my PT, Surgeon, Coach, and self I can keep my pace reasonable.
