I don't mean stick-thin models. ..i mean basses with a bit of substance without having breaking your leg should it tragically detach itself from its strap.. Show,Show,Show!
You won't really be able to tell how light a bass is by a picture though, eh? So I'll tell you that these two weigh 4 lbs each. Seriously though, they're both around 8lbs. The fretless may be under. Very light considering they're singlecut 35" five-strings.
Not sure what it weighs but it's the second lightest bass I own. This would be the lightest Bass I own. An 85 Ibanez Axstar.
{} ~7.5lbs and ~5.5lbs respectively. Plenty of killer tone, minimal weight. My USA Peavey Cirrus and Millennium basses are probably no more than 8-8.5lbs, but I'm entirely too lazy to weigh them. All my stuff is fairly light.
{} Just over 7 lbs. -- currently my #1 following a back surgery. It will be a while before my 11 lb. Sadowsky UV70-5 string gets much playing time. {} about 8lbs. each. Reverend basses are nice and light. My Steinberger "boat paddle" looks like it should be really light, but it actually weighs 9 lbs. or so. I'm always surprised at how dense the composite material it was made out of is. BTW, I love that '85 Axstar that FL Knifemaker has. Thumbs up!!
Vigier Excess basses. They weigh in at 3kgs or about 6.5 lbs The RIC weighs about 9+ lbs. Heavy. {} {}
View attachment 60174 Birdsong Sadhana#13(Bermuda Debby) View attachment 60175 Weighs 6 lbs. 14 oz....
A bass teacher that I had has this MTD 535 that threw me off so bad the first time I held it. I don't know what kind of wood it was, but it was a fairly large 5 string that was SUPER light.
8 lbs 3 oz. 7 lbs. 8 oz Considering both are walnut and the first one has stripes of ebony and purpleheart, not too shabby.
Here's my JB-2 - also under 8 pounds...and just a sweet sounding bass all around: {} {} {} Here's two other light basses - the Rob Allen is about 5 pounds, the Dean Fretless is about 7 pounds: {} {} And the Rob Allen: {} {}
