Most of the Burns basses (like the Bison pictured below) had three pickups- I assume they are production instruments, but you don't see many of them around here so I'm not sure.

Although the third is usually hidden by the pickguard.
The middle pickup looking thing is actually just a hum cancelling dummy coil that doesn't create a signal, just like Alembic do on some of their models.
