Show me your compact pedalboard setup

Heheh! You know the most frequent question I get is: What do you do at traffic lights? Even if I were unable to distinguish between light green and dark red the fixed order of the lights is always a big give away!

If he doesn't know already, there's a company called Enchroma who make sunglasses and day glasses to correct colorblindness. If my bass related shopping list ever permits me to, I'll get a pair but from the US to here in Italy would cost me about $500 a pair!

It would be cool to see how normal vision people see but it could also totally freak me out being the equivalent of the strongest kind of acid trip!
He got really confused when we went to Mexico. He was expecting vertical stop lights like in the states but they were all horizontal. It was a thrilling ride to say the least.

In Australia green traffic lights have a slight blue tinge to make it easier for color blind people to pick

Hi and thanks for the interest!

Yes, they are indeed push-on Boss replacement knobs.

Part of my OCD requires that all my pedals must have them (the SansAmp VT Bass has them too!)

If the spacing of the knobs is too tight to allow for this, (as on the other pedals) I use the push on black rubber type with a white stripe.

I don't have problems with my eyesight (except for being colour blind) but the bigger the white stripes on knobs, the easier it is to see settings with a downward glance.

In fact, I routinely switch out all LEDs with the larger 5mm blue type for my colourblindness, as it's the easiest colour for me to see. Dull red or green LEDs are almost invisable to me sometimes!

Very interesting!

I've never thought about how colourblindness would affect the ability to see pedal LEDs. Is the red tuner hard to see as well? I'm pretty sure there's quite a few blue LED tuners on the market.

Actually it's usually more to do with the intensity of certain colours which allows me to see them or differentiate between them. The ST300 has pretty bright LEDS and the one I had before it (the ST200) didn't really give me much of a problem either -if there wasn't too much natural light around.

Whereas one time I had a Boss loop station which had 3 different tracks to record on. I could never understand why I had so much difficulty in using it until I discovered that the LED's were multi colour / functions. I think the one that indicated record or playback scrolled through 3 colours: red , green and maybe yellow(?). Anyway, I couldn't see one of the 3 colours and it just freaked me out as I could never be sure what mode it was in!

It can be a real pain in the a$$ sometimes and also because I like electronics maybe I could have been an electrician, but unfortunately the colour bands on resistors are impossible for me to distinguish alone!

Very cool board, thanks for sharing!

I am surprised you go for the Boss knobs before the 'black rubber type with a white stripe.' To me the white stripes on those black rubber knobs are easier to see/discern than the smaller/shorter/thinner stripes on the Boss knobs.
Not to be too anal about it, but as I look at your board, my eyes seem to 'see' and somewhat fixate on the bright silver disk of the Boss knob, with the small white stripe being secondary.

Yeah, I would use them everywhere, but sometimes they don't fit the shafts on some pedals or the rubber bottoms of the knobs extend to where they actually touch the pedal enclosure underneath and make them difficult to turn.

I've been using Boss pedals and those style of knobs since I started playing nearly 35 years ago, so I guess I'm just used to them and not getting distracted by their silver disks -I guess. :)

I mentioned some posts up that I was thinking of downsizing my board and only putting on the essentials, well this happened!

Love the metro 20, perfect size and sits on top of my Amp perfectly. Still some room on there if I play a set that requires a wah or chorus. The M81 is a new addition, wanted a clean preamp to run into the amazing J48.

I've been very interested in the M81, and may still get one. Any further thoughts on it are appreciated. Interested to know why you wouldn't just use the DI out from the M81, rather than the Radial? Is there a difference in the quality of signal? There would be a significant space saving also.

Cheers

The J48 is just a preference. It provides a very strong signal and good clarity. Sound guys never question my request to use it.
