How would you characterise the tonal differences/similarities between the orange an TC RH rigs?

Good question. I find the TC RH heads a little darker and more low middy set flat. Similar to Ampeg while the Orange has a different tone stack and I usually have to run the EQ with Treble at 9:00, Mids at about 4:00 and Bass at about 9:00. With that EQ I find the Orange to have a beautifully colored midrange. Hard to describe, but it sounds more woody, grunty and I can hear the string windings very well.

With SpectraComp and a small amount of TubeTone I can approximate a pushed Ampeg very well and with no TubeTone and only SpectraComp the TC RH heads can give me a pretty thick and solid note with a slight hint of fur. And as a lot of people have said before, they are LOUD.

The Orange can be run very clean and can also give me some growl that I have not been able to get out of any other amp. I have to say that the Orange growl can be pretty impressive and I pretty much like a clean sound, but I find myself using a bit more gain because of that growl. Somewhere around 10 to 11:00 depending on bass.

For the last 5+ years the RH heads have been my favorites. Right now though I am using the Orange way more and I cant get enough of it. Both are definitely keepers. Hope this helps.
