Awesome amp man! One of my best friends has one he uses for guitar. How does it sound for bass?
I have a SMF sound city monster head with 16 12s... 4 4x12 cabs I call it my Marshall eater. I also have a Sound city 150 head with a hiwatt 4123 bottom..... no pics til tomorrow They really have that bass growl sound that is unmatched!!
Full, clear, touch-sensitive, and "breathy" if that makes any sense. The midrange is present without sounding muddy. If your fingerstyle technique is good, it can really make your playing sound "lively." Every time I turn it on, I want to play the intro to Sabbath's War Pigs.
Through the bright channel, it sounds really bright at the very top end… almost piercing. (I personally love that sound.) Through the normal channel, it has more oomph in the lower mids. I jumper the two together and blend the sounds together.

I'm on my second. Had an L120 for a time. Beast of an amp. Not what I was looking for really, but loud as hell for sure. Got this one more recently, but it's likely on the way out. I have other amps in the 50 watt range that I prefer to use.

There is usually at least one or two items that are a worthy mention on the Atl CL. Just missed a 60's B-15 $500 negotiable!?! Ten miles from the house.
Also didn't jump on an all original 63P that went for $3000 two years ago. That one still haunts me.A few notable ones were an all original 360/361 and an Ampeg 810 for $200 that I capitalized on.
I keep thinking of starting a thread with updates on Atlanta CL finds but I'm too lazy. Many many deals if you stay on top of it.
I think it's great with a gritty tube amp and a twangy, nasty sounding bass. It does not have enough low end for me to use with 5 string, unless used alongside other cabs with better lows. The 415M, X188, and Exploiter all sound better together than with any other combination of gear I own. I've gotten acceptable results using the 415M alongside subs run full range. I suspect it might make a decent guitar cab. Current speakers are not stock, blew one and replaced them all with OEM Fenders but the difference in sound was barely noticeable.
The Sound City Bass 150 was my favorite amp ever. Tone-wise. Not so much weight-wise. From the lowest volume small gigs to bigger rooms, it never failed to sound less than excellent. Warm, fat, rich, clear. I just couldn't lug it around anymore. If someone could put that sound in a small amp, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Part of the reason (IMO) was the EQ -- absolutely perfect frequency choices. Just writing this makes me a bit sad . . .
Thank you. Alan Spenner plays his fretless p through a similar SC mk2 in this great video. Who knows it could even be the same amp because I doubt Dave Reeves made many of them in his garage. Probably less than 50 or 30.
