It'll be cheaper than buying a new one, and I can now probably justify another 70s Fretless P.
Here is my deep 5 - the very first ever made:
34in scale, koa top, one piece maple neck, single volume control.
As a sidenote, I just ordered a case from Rob for it (given that the deep case didn't exist when mine was made) so I have a Deep 4/5 gigbag for sale. Will go in the classifieds soon but PM me if interested before I get around to it.

thinking about getting an "unbound" MB2-5
This one (done for Pino Palladino) is a "high c" model....I love how the top bends with the forearm contour.

Anyone knows the msrp on the undercover gig bag that comes with Rob's basses? Listing one for sale but have no idea at what price to list it.

You probably won't find many, as of May Rob had only built two, Pino's and mine.

I'm seriously considering the purchase of a Rob Allen bass... an MB-2 to be precise.
I played the flame maple top 4 string listed above and couldn't believe the tone and playability. My question is how would it compare in terms of tone to the walnut top? Same ballpark or completely different?
Ideally I'd prefer a 5 string, but these two are available and considering how little I play fretless the 4 string may do the trick.

Man, when I first joined here on TB I absolutely despised Rob Allens, I thought they were sooo ugly, but I have grown and learned so much this past year and change, and now I love em!

Very similar. The Cocobola board 'might' be a tad warmer and more organic sounding than the ebony, but it is very subtle. Rob believes that his tone comes out regardless of wood combinations, and the few that I've owned and the few more that I've played with very different wood combinations (ash, alder, ebony, rosewood, algonco or whatever that wood is, etc.) all sounded very, very similar, and wonderful! IMO and IME.
I had to check my bass rack when I saw this bass posted as "sold" on the Low End Bass shop's site.
It seemed that there was some wood left over when Rob made mine.
The "issue" for me isn't that there's two, its that the other owner sold his/her bass. I cant imagine parting from my Mouse.

Wow, it seems like you bass is ready to put some ribs and burguers on the strings and have a nice BBQ!

It's definitely got a lovely glow compared to the other. Is that just the lighting ? Or is there something about the finish ?

i'd say its just the lighting. Rob is such a minimalist when it comes to finishes, in person they probably look the same.
the big question is who has spalted brazilian mouse number 2?
