A shot in the dark I know, but has anyone tried the Fishman Aura Spectrum DI (Link Removed). I can't find any "images" that are for acoustic bass but still intrigued about the pedal's ability to mimic the sound of a mic'd acoustic. I've emailed Fishman to see what their view is on using it for a bass.

Heard back from Fishman:

"I'm sorry, but it is not going to work. We have yet to successfully adapt Aura technology for bass, and if we can work out the algorithms, the product would likely need to be released as a bass only version of the pedal. Sorry it isn't going to be a good match for your instrument."

Oh well. I'll check out the Paradriver. What I really want it a controllable, blendable overdrive. The M80 is too over the top. The Bass Metaphors is too noisy. The Tone Hammer you can't control the AGS blend. I may look at the Baggs Venue next or perhaps just separate pedals.

I wouldn't have thought that there was a lot of difference between
(a) taking the piezo sound from an acoustic guitar, and from that producing the fully miked sound of that instrument, and
(b) taking the piezo sound from an acoustic bass guitar, and from that producing the fully miked sound of that instrument.

(I know that would mean Fishman developing new 'images', and existing pedals with acoustic guitar 'images' wouldn't work with bass, but even so ...)

Maybe that wasn't the question you asked them ? (Or maybe my guesswork about what goes on in an Aura is way off the mark)

It depends on backlog and what "run" is planned next. Safe bet is to plan six months at a minimum. I think my best case for a RA is five months, nine months being the longest.

I agree with you here. I asked them if they had any images either for an acoustic bass guitar or a bass with a piezo under the saddle. I also explained the exact bass I had from Rob, the wood and the piezo. I would think some image would work. There are hundred of user ones available but you don't get access to those unless you have a unit plugged in to your computer.

I did some heavy searching and did find a post from some forum a few years ago where someone tried an older Aura pedal with a Tacoma Thunderchief and had excellent results with some of the stock "images."

I may end up being the guinea pig for this box for a bass, although the switch for the feedback notch is probably useless. The tone knobs are voiced close enough for bass and you can blend between the eq'd sound and the image (which doesn't get eq'd). I can always return it

Rob's basses have a ton of low end. As a result, a cabinet that also has a ton of low end with polite or scooped mids (eg some Epis, Aggie GS, etc) isn't really a good combination imho. An articulate head helps as well. I wasn't crazy about the TC RH450 with the RA, liked the MB LMTube better, like the GK MB Fusion quite a bit better. Something that can get a little aggressive in the mids can help the bass cut a bit more. Having a ton of hi-freq info doesn't really help that much either, as the piezo also tends to have a lot of output there as well. You can tame it with eq though - just depends on your goal and application.

You'll have to check with Rob on timing. My guess would be 4-6 months but that isn't based on a recent conversation.

The Deep sounds quite nice through my Eden Traveler 300 (paired with a 1x12 schroeder or Accugroove Tri110) but in general I prefer the AI Clarus with a Bergantino 2x10.

So I walk into Bass NW today thinking I'm gonna buy a used Turner Renaissance. That bass was in transit and I took a chance it had shown up. It hadn't. Not wanting to have made the trip down from Canadia for nothing I thought I'd check out a few basses. The first one I picked up was a walnut top, concalo alves fretless 4...and that's as far as I got. Before I'd plugged it in it spoke to me and after 3 or 4 minutes hearing it at volume I was a goner. Rob Allen sure got a lot of things right on these basses: Good looks, wonderfully playable, HUGE sound. I could go into great detail on all of these aspects but I realize I'm preaching to the choir so I'll restrain myself. Never thought I'd own another fretless but not only do I, I think I got a new #1 go to bass. Lousy pic but here it is.

Just heard from Rob - my new Deep 4 is probably going to be done by the end of Feb. Should have some initial pics soon. Can't wait. Time to start prepping the old one to go.

Just put new LaBella's on my fretted Mouse, oiled the rosewood board, and gave the alder/Koa body a nice carnuba waxing. I purchased this bass used, and figured I'd get it back to 'like new'. Wow, the Koa top just screams now.

Edit: There is a decent clip of this bass on my Youtube channel if anyone is interested in what a fretted Mouse sounds like. I'm using the TC RH450/RS210 rig in the clip, and IMO that is really a good match... warm, smooth, and not too extended in the deep low end, allowing all that woody tone to come through nicely without any boom or upper treble click.
