Hey now - I resent the fact they were dead. I replaced the E once in these 10 or so years. :)

Much like I dislike the LaBella strings that Rob tends to use, we all have preferences. I almost tried Galli strings on my new D4, but ultimately stuck with my RS88s. Rob's never had a problem putting them on for me and taking them into account. Same with me using the RS77 set on my S4 - I'm sure they wouldn't be his normal choice of strings.

+1. I always send Rob my favorite gauge D'Addario roundwounds and he gladly installs them.

Oh no ... gas attack coming on ! I'm currently eyeing up shortie 4s and the only reason I've never made a move is that I know a 4 won't get taken to gigs ... a shortie 5 is definitely giggable though, and an RA shortie 5 should be way more than that :)

Received my MB-2 yesterday. I'd never played a Rob Allen before and I can honestly say that I am completely blown away by this bass. First of all, it feels as if it was made for me (the only other time I've felt this was with my MTDs). Wow - effortless to play. And the sound! Punchy and thick with mwah and sustain like no other bass I've played. Incredible string-to-string balance and each note just sounds SO GOOD! I've yet to gig this bass (I was intending on using it mainly for cocktail jazz sets) but so far it has exceeded all of my expectations. After only one day I feel as if I never want to be without one of these fantastic instruments.

Of course, maybe I'll hate it in six months... but I doubt it. ;)

Piezo - straight Deep 4 build. I took my Fodera down today for Rob to measure the neck. He's not going to replicate it, but my D4 will likely be a bit shallower shape than normal. You don't want to take off much meat compared to the regular shape so we won't go narrower.

The downside is it looks like all the basses I have on order will be finished late Dec/early Jan. I better start stashing my pennies quick :D

The more I play the new Deep 4, the more I realize it was a good decision to do another build. Rob really nailed the neck. I use the piezo more than the mag right now, especially in a big band setting. I love the sound with the mag, but there's a bit more presence with the piezo sitting in the balance with the band.

I'm glad Ukiah Bass is enjoying my old one. I thought I'd miss it more than I do.

Right now my biggest decision is whether or not to use a P (most likely my '78 which looks like John Deacon's) or my S4 for the Queen Extravaganza audition lol

Yes! I'm very excited! Thanks Todd for the help in making this happen and for your insight. That new Deep 4 top looks amazing!!!

Hopefully I will be reposting "bass12" RA feelings verbatim tomorrow!
