At one point I was thinking about a double neck, one fretted, one fretless. Think Solid 4 meets either a MB-2 or Deep 4, fused together.

At least that makes sense. I don't see the point in having a gigantic double neck bass that is basically the same. The wood looks a tad different in the photo but not enough to be that noticeable. Pretty silly.
Nice, I've been on HG Thor's list for almost 2 years.
Should be getting a space this fall.
He is the best there is at epoxied fingerboards.
I know that he questions your motives for customizing a bass. In the case where I was asking for something similar in concept to another bass I got from him he questioned whether I would wind up with something I already had. He discouraged me from proceeding until we had worked out something that would be unique and different.
I assume he did the same with the owner of the double neck. I agree it looks redundant but there must be features incorporated that achieve two different results. Just MHO based on my experience in ordering four basses from Rob.

Right now it's en route somewhere in the USA heading East. Should be in my hands by next weekend. I'll have to take some pics for Rob that I hope are decent, as he may use them on the site if they're good enough. I know he really liked this one. To quote Rob himself: "I consider the bass to be phenomenal all the way around, a stellar piece."
I really can't wait to play it especially since he spent a lot of time hand shaping the neck. And this, kiddies, is why you get what you pay for with some luthiers.
I can say for each of my RAs (obviously haven't received the new one yet), Rob took a lot of time talking to me to see what I was going for and didn't just say, "Sure, I'll take your money and build you something." A good example: my new D4 basically has the same wood as my original and on the surface, outside of the mag pickup and its knobs, will appear to be pretty similar. But it's VERY different all around.
Heck, when I talked to Rob the first time about a P-like bass, he basically said no. So if he was just out for money, he would have taken mine then. It wasn't until a few years later when we revisited it and he was thinking about doing a solid body himself that it got done.
I know there was a bronze painted Mouse (with mag pickups) and the Solid and I know he's done a few gloss finished basses.
But has Rob done a tinted bass? Or has anyone done a aftermarket refinish?
More curious than considering. An MB2 in blue tint over flamed maple would be pretty.

Yes. The original version of the MB2 was a sunburst. I think some early MB2s had paintjobs, but natural was becoming much more popular as the ball started rolling.
Rob turned the idea down? I can't remember when we had the conversation, but he was claiming to have a really rich sunburst that had more shades than his normal camera could capture.
