Looks like my bass is done. Talked to Rob today. He just needs to put the knobs for the mag on and just tweak a few things in setup. His camera is in the shop, so no pics unfortunately. Shame as I love his pics of the basses. Oh well.

Exploring the idea of a part fretted, part fretless custom with Rob. Im circling on a fiver with BEA fretted and DG fretless. Im not comfortable on most sixers (i just bought the ibanez ashula hybrid six as an experiment)
Rob suggested a split fingerboard with two kinds of wood for the best sound and two discreet outputs. The bass would be a full custom based on an unbound mb2. A lot of the design language will be based on the asymmetry of the fingerboard split.
A lot of refinement to follow. I imagine we,ll be seeing it late this year.

Interesting concept. IDK, given the number of 5ers you have, since you mentioned 6 strings, maybe high C it?

if you had only two fretless strings (the 3 lower strings would be fretted), would you want a D-G or G-C?
Thinking the D-G would have more usable range.
The ethos I'm hoping to manifest in my RA custom.

6 of one, half dozen of the other.
I'd probably opt for the high C, which I'll most likely do when I get a Deep 5 since 6 strings isn't an option. The compromise between a 5 and 6 is that Rob's basses sound great in dropped D, so it's kinda like having the range of a 6.
Drop tuner is a good call. Gets you that little extra mojo.
BTW, Given your affinity for unique customs, I'm wondering what sort of Deep you'll end up.
34" scale, high C tuned, D-Tuner on E string, integrated thumbrest, high grade figured walnut, single volume knob bridge, with a 2 band hidden inside. Push/pull EQ defeat volume knob. I'd like some sort of bass mute, but the Bass Mute doesn't quite fit the visual aspects of RA basses. Still thinking about what to do with that.

I just took delivery of a 12 year old, used five string MB-2f. I'm in the process of changing the strings and while I have the strings off, I'd like to give the bass a good cleaning.
I can't find any cleaning recommendations on Rob's site for what to use for cleaning. Only that at least his newer basses are oil finished.
Lately I've been using Sadowsky's cleaner and polish (they're both thick liquids) which are good for both poly and nitro finishes.
Will the these cleaners work on the MB-2f? Is there anything better?

now THAT is an interesting idea. The doubleneck RA MB2 works quite well. This one belongs to a talkbass member (i forgot his name for the second time)
What is the point of this?
