Show Us Your Rob Allen Basses Part IV

The lower gauge black tapes are nice, I never noticed much of a difference.
I went through about 3 Turner Ren's and wish I had kept one. The acousticores are nice strings.
Come on Man!! Just swap strings and let us know how they sound [ preferably giving us some sound clips ] !
Or do you dread [like me] changing strings when they go through the body :rollno: What a pain! Most of my basses are through body strung and the joy of unwinding the string ends over and over is not fun......

I may try the lighter gauge black tapes. I am a little nervous to try the acousticores, but may give em a shot.

I do think some of these piezo driven basses are designed and voiced around the strings chosen for them, so I'm inclined to stick with the black tapes and work with EQ/preamp to get it sounding how I want it. I feel like that was true with the Alain Caron bass and the exposed core Labellas, and it seems to be true with the Turner's. And, Ive read more than once that after string experimentation, most RA users come back to black tapes. One notable exception is Christian Houmann who seems to be very happy with Labella flats E-C on his Deep 5.

Agreed. After experimentation, always came back to the black tapes.

Which black tapes are you liking?

I've written about what is on my RAs in this thread at least once or twice. Rob shipped 'em with the Roto RS88 set (my default going back to the 90s) at my request. I also tried the Gallis for a bit and for the past few years, the Pyramids are on the D4.

I really think it depends on the tone you want as well as the feel you want from the strings.

Have any of you seen this fretted MB-2 6 string on Guitar Center's website? I don't think I knew that Rob made 6 string versions of these.

Rob has made a few 6 strings. Definitely not many. I still have mine.

Would love to see pics however it works out! They've taken the ad down and I missed any photos. :(
pictures from the ad, I will surely take her apart and go through everything and clean it up when it arrives. Will happily put up some photos.
