I did an inquiry on here a couple months back about Blades because a guitar player at my church has a Blade strat that absolutely SMOKES!

and I checked out their basses, and they intrigued me...

found out that there are a few "bladers" here in Australia and I was turned on to a dealer in Newcastle. Now it's just a matter of finding that missing bag-o-money

They're not thát expensive, are they?

I was in touch with Blade's office in Basel, Switzerland today. They're heading over to Frankfurt for MusikMesse next week. I suspect they'll have their new five string model. It's the five string version of the Tetra Standard.

The US distributor is about 2 miles from my house in Englewood Colorado. I do see a few music stores in town stocking them and the distributor has quite a few hanging in his store. Don't know why I've never picked one up to play before. They'er not bad looking basses.

What music store near Englewood? I haven't seen these around town. They look like great basses.

The necks are slim. Standard jazz width, but flatter board at 10 inch radius and narrower up the neck than a Geddy lee. Fast neck.

The controls are volume/balance/tone. You have an adjustable volume boost control by pulling up the tone knob. There's an adjustment screw in the back of the body.

They're very nice basses. If you like the jazz bass configuration, you get a narrower and flatter necked bass, with tweaked controls.

They're quite popular in Europe.

Do they make any of their current production in Switzerland? I remember at least some of the Blade production in the early 90's was sourced from Japan. The insignia on the headstock indicated it was designed by Blade of Switzerland, but the manufacturing label on the back of the neck (which could easily be removed if so desired) was labeled 'Made in Japan'.

No, all Blades are and always have been produced in Japan. There are no Swiss Blade instruments, as far as I know (and I have asked the company about that ). The only thing that's Swiss is the origin of the company. The production has always been in Japan.

As far as their basses go, the B1 is made in China, assembled in Japan with final set up in Basel, Switzerland.

The B2, like Bassagent has (which is in the league of Lull/Sadowsky Metro), are made in Japan and set up in Basel.

Gary Levinson, the guy behind Blade Guitars, is an American that settled in Switzerland roughly 30 years ago. He, like Mike Lull and Roger Sadowsky, started out by hot rodding Fenders and doing set ups.
