I've seen 3 or 4 hole versions on there. That was just first one I found quick. Doing a mad scientist pickup swap so I looked quickly and that's what I got lol. That's cool
Makes sense to me. The area around the jack is one of the few inherent weak spots(if you could call it that) on a P-bass. Seems like the 70’s plastic guards are pretty commonly cracked around the tip...I know mine was. Eventually I took an old 60’s guard off my old MIJ that it didn’t quite fit and it fit great on my ‘75....still a weak spot though.I've seen 3 or 4 hole versions on there. I feel weird just trying to mash the words custom and cheap into the same sentenceConsidering a DIY'r wanting that option (going P pg-less) that's a pretty cheap solution. I know because I just had a custom control-plate made for my Scarab Deluxe Bass of thin steel and it was $85. Chroming would add an additional expense. Can't find one like it on eBay though...Usually I'd have cut it myself - but having it done was part of a bigger scheme I have in mind working with the fabricator. I think people looking to pay nothing for something unique are not aware of what 'custom' costs in the real world.

And a tetnus shot.
pretty nuts what those original pickguards can do when they break down!
In the Standing in the Shadows of Motown version with James Jameson. There’s a excerpt where JJ Jr is asking dad why he never changed his strings during all the Motown years. JJ Sr responds with.. “That’s what gives it the Funk”.I think even the most die-hard 'leave the dead strings on forever' thumper would want to replace those!![]()
