..well, every now and then we need to see an example of a "relic" job that is not even close to being authentic. (which... is the goal - aka = looking authentic) Power tools are never part of the equation - other than a final buffing. The key to creating a convincing relic is starting with a thin nitro/lacquer finish. (like a '60s vintage Fender guitar/bass) Or at least a thin enamel/nitro finish - which I have accomplished. I know because my first attempt used a modern factory epoxy-finished body - not good. To do a convincing relic, you need to imitate the original in every way, but in an accelerated fashion. The "bad" relic jobs are over-stylization's of a mis-conception of "relic". To do an authentic relic process requires skill and an artistic sensibility. It's pretty obvious which are which.

Yes... I would like the relic-ing taken to the point where no paint is left on the "select alder" body. 220 emory cloth thank you.
I'm not sure if I've posted this here yet... It's factory "distressed", very beautifully I gotta say (except the pickup cover, I wore that down from new on my last bass). I picked it up in January, I'm curious to see it in a few years, I play a lot and the finish seems pretty thin.

On eBay from Japan - '65 J w/refin. No mention of Will Lee's siggy in the ad copy - kinda cool. I met Will a few years ago - great player. Looks to have a Sadowsky pre installed - much like WL's basses.
