'68 Tele bass neck currently on the bay - you don't even want to know what they are asking for it... It was a cool transition being the first year for the Tele bass, essentially Fenders 1st RI without considering it such. They didn't have a dedicated hs decal for it yet so they pieced together a Tele guitar TELECASTER decal and added on Bass from the Coronado Bass of the same year. Pops were rare on a Tele bass but did appear on some - especially on the paisley/flower print bodies which this neck may have come from.

That has had a hard working life non original bridge as well. The same year as mine 1964 bet, it still sounds good though.

Speaking of distressed finishes.. Behold the crazy checking on my 69 P-bass. I’ve never seen anything like it before l, so odd! Has anyone ever seen this before?

That wear is from aggressive strumming over the neck, crazy lead would be the high strings

Checking can occur on vintage finishes related to temperature conditions/fluctuations & time/age, but I'm going to guess that being '69 it was due to CBS's transition from thin lacquer to thick poly by the way it came off the wood so cleanly and in brittle pieces.

Yeah i kinda figured this as well. I only find it so odd the lacquer is coming off almost exclusively in straight vertical lines too. It’s also on the front of the bass only.

I remember when getting this bass (2012?) there were actually long vertical strings of lacquer hanging loose over the body.

The back really looks CBS poly - most likely the front was exposed to (heat/cold/sunlight) either on a stand or in a case. For whatever reason checking usually is horizontal across the body - just the way it happens.

Haha...that's my bass I just posted! First time I've had a reliced bass. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] does great work, I recommend. I bought that body on TB and put my old '74 Pbass neck on it. Not sure I like the P/J pick up configuration--anything but the straight P-pickup doesn't sound right to me.

RE: the brass nut. That was there when I bought it in '79, complete with Alembic pickups and a brass bridge. Ahhh...those modded '70's basses! That would actually be a cool thread!

MJT does nice work. When I saw it, I thought it was an actual distressed '70s P-bass. The added Dimarzio J bridge pu, 3-way slider switch and brass nut are right in line with mods players did then. Only thing it's missing is a BA bridge.

Don't want to derail....but here is your BA bridge, as requested!!! This is the bass that the neck on the MJT came from. Modded in the late '70s (not by me). This is how this bass has been since about 1980. Put the neck on the MJT this week. (Sorry, this must be very confusing to follow.)
