Current shot. A friend had a 60's celluloid pearl guard so its wearing that now. Can always switch back.
That bass is a real player. Light, set-up, action, etc as good as on any contemporary boutique bass.

Proves yet again how Leo Fender had full grasp of the concept of Occams razor. Occam's razor, for anyone who doesn't know - is often stated as an injunction not to make more assumptions than you absolutely need.
...as in, the man kept it simple and right.

Thanks! I initially wanted to do it in a sparkle finish but Bravewood isn't set up to do them. I had first looked in Poland and I wanted to keep it here but couldn't find anyone here who was 'vintage correct' enough for my OCD. Have since found this guy in Ireland doing really nice sparkles in nitro (SC Relics) - nice work. Now I may NEED to get more basses just to do them like this...

In the book; Fender - The Golden Age has 2 pages on early sparkle finishes. Wasn't an 'in-house' finish - was farmed out to local hot-rod finishers around Fullerton for guys like Buck Owens & Don Rich, and Dick Dale and his surf band The Del-Tones. This included 'Surfburst' - a very lagoon coloured blue-green. The sparkle-burst combo rocks.
Marty Bell did my Super SLX in a deep trans-eggplant/raspberry that looks black in low light and comes alive with bright light. I shot this unaltered pic when bright sunlight landed on it through a small opening. I've since done upgrades having a custom walnut/ebony neck made for it since this pic.
I saw a 'rainbow burst' P bass back when I worked at Real. It should have been super cool but I have to say it was pretty hideous. A friend still has an original '61 Tele Custom slab board in silver sparkle. Even has all the original special order paperwork. Looks just like Buck Owens' except white binding rather than black.
This is why there should be a "love" option. "Like" is insufficient.

Well, smelling that type of finish *before* it was applied with no mask on would certainly get you to some interesting places soon enough...
