I like to 'sniff' oil paintings at art galleries to smell the linseed-oil if they are recently and thickly painted. In museums it's generally not available as there's always a bit of black tape on the floor to not step past. Adding to that, if the paintings are old enough, such off-gassing is just not available. But when it is available - it reminds me of my art studio days I when the smell of such filled the air around me. Just catching a whiff of it is like a time machine transporting me back into my art studio days - indulgent for sure... mostly harmless otherwise.
