SHOW YOUR DISTRESSED FINISHES!

That top is gorgeous!

Marty was the king of sparkle finishes - he's recently retired from his biz as far as I know. This was a silver & gold blend, so I did a mix of gold and chrome parts to play off of that.

Slick! :) Great attention to detail.

According to Marty's website, he's in simi retirement but still does some work. Advanced Glaucoma has been effecting his eyesight. I think it depends on the job. He does go into detail on his site here.

Yes, I knew about his eye/vision issues for years now. He and Pat Wilkins have been doing finishing biz since the '80s - semi-retirement is where I'm at as well.

I’m sure it’s hard to walk away from something you love doing. I say that for Marty’s case. Are you semiretired from guitar building?

Semi-retired from the day-job, doing more guitar designing/building. :bassist:

The "cassette as pickup cover" is so awesome.

I like it a lot more than the "record as a pickguard".
That is glorious. I have to fess that I am mentally perusing my cassette library with caffeine induced thoughts on how to pilfer that idea for an EB-L I have...
Fwiw the cassette cover is @JIO 's fault for giving me an eb pickup without a cover lol.
I was gonna make something fancy but I just happened to have this tape in the vicinity of the bass and they just called to each other.

Guilty as charged - :D

Looks like it was a bit close to the fireplace...? What's the back story on this one? I like the cassette PU cover!
I'm searching the history of it atm! I did probe the person I bought it from off reverb and they passed along that they had bought it off reverb and as a project it proved too much for them.

Unfortunately when I nicely asked if they could pass my info along they got defensive. This seemed a bit sus. Though with a little search I found the (original?) seller and think I know why the last person was defensive. It seems they had done some not so pretty damage to it after the fact with a forstner bit :rollno:. Anyway I messaged the next guy in the chain and we'll see where it goes.

Here's my build thread on it and how it came to me, Crispy Cherry

Couple photos from the "original" sale.

That thing is cool! Looks like it almost burned right up...someone must've put that thing out! Wow!

This bass was involved in a house fire...close enough to bake the finish but the knob's and everything else was ok! It's also happens to be a great player, easily the best sounding Jazz I've ever played...I think that has something to do with being baked!...............the Jazz bass, not me!!! LOL
