What is an ERB? Never been in the military so I'm not too good with the acronyms. what do you guys do for a living I can only dream of having $50,000 worth of basses. Im not hatin but what is the secret?
:D :D :D :D

It means 'Extended Range Bass.' It can mean more than 4 strings, or 6+, depending on who you're talking to.

Peace

Anyone that here owns an ERB slap on it? :ninja:

It seems like anything more than certain 7 strings would be just too much, and wouldn't have proficiency of their lesser stringed brethren. Then again some people never slap 4 or 8 string basses.

That is, unless you practice a lot with them. Seriously, I got some guys in the region with Conlkin 7s, slapping, tappin, and the carry the functionaliy just fine. Granted, I do know a guy who spends to much time in the upper range when he should be carrying the bass, but that is more of how the band is structured. If they had a keys guy to cover the low end when that dude goes up, there would be no issues.

Not picking on you by any means, but sometimes what you think is a mountain is just an ant hill to others. Depends on the woodshedding you put in.

That said, I suck on a 6, much less a 7. ;)

I slap (okay, slapped) mine pretty regularly. it's just a matter of having decent thumb and muting control.

a friend just lent me his 7 today to tide me over 'til I get my new axes. combined with the 11 I've been loaned I think my woodshedding time on my new basses should be pretty minimal.

Stew, glad to hear your' keeping your chops sharp while in the lurch, but I have to ask, who do you know that had an 11 string hanging around they could let you borrow?

you sure you're not thinking of a different slapper, Todd?

:p

seriously, thank you for the kind words, man. :D

as to the 11, it's Garry Goodman's. he was having Mike Adler work on it and since he's focusing on the 12 these days he was gracious enough to lend it to me to keep my hand in. I am definitely in the man's debt!

from the depths of groove and gratitude,

Stew

Yea, I don't know them all, but Garry and Jean were the only ones I could think of that would have more than one 11+string (maybe Yves too, but I'm not sure...) and Jean's are all a little on the unusual side (to say the least), so Garry was the obvious choice.

oh, man...! that's too funny! the string count as the page loads is hillarious, man!

actually, Jean and Garry are only 2 of a legion of cats who offered me instruments to see me through until I get back onto my feet. I said 'no' to pretty much everyone, but Mike kind of insisted. so did Edo Castro who's loaning me the 7.

I am so fortunate to receive this amazing generosity.

and Yves is a 10 stringer, but he's a lefty so it would have been tough on me. he's been very supportive, though, and has encouraged me not to quit playing. the temptation has been pretty huge over the last months. he and I are hoping to record a duet album this year.

:D

thanks for the thoughts and concern, man. the CD's of pics from tour with the BOG you took are among the very few things that survived New Orleans!

stay well, take care, and keep it deep!
