Show Your Fretless

‘88 MIJ Squier P Bass, with a 32” scale. My buddy at the guitar shop defretted it and installed the Seymour Duncan Jazz Bass pickup before I ever took it home.

This thread motivated me to get my fretless neck installed! I have 2 Squier Vintage Modified basses. The Jazz fretless ebanol board had been sanded down by a previous owner so my dad and I replaced it with a Macassar ebony board (our first attempt at a job like this). I've been having trouble with buzzing at the first few fret positions - I think because the neck in the loosest truss-rod state is a little bit curved. So tonight I got the sanding bar out and went through 150 to 1000 grid to get rid of the hump. The J bass is currently at my dad's house undergoing pick guard surgery (another story) so I threw the fretless neck on the P bass. I think I fixed the buzzing issues but I do need to spend a little time setting it up. Oh and also I need to learn how to play fretless - and one that currently has no lines and markers! I plan to put a few stickers on the side to help with finding position but I know I need to train my ears and muscle memory as well.

I think this dark ebony neck looks really good on this white/black P bass. First time to bolt these together!

Nice
What’s the story on this bass?
Hi. Thanks for asking. 1973 fretless p neck. Custom body made to my specs and gold leaf finish by Mattia Franchin. Pickup originally the Nordstrand '51 noiseless, currently a Fender CS Telecaster (guitar) neck pickup and hardware. Doesn't sound too bad, actually, but the Nordy was better.
