Well she normally uses her blue sparkle one since Steve Harris played that color for many years and people recognize it more. In the earliest days his bass was black.

The black one is always on the stand as a backup if needed but Friday was the first time I have seen her use it. Just a change of pace for the night.

I've been gassing for an SB-2 for awhile and finally splurged for this one on Ebay (I'm sure some of you probably saw it on there already- brand new with the 6- bolt neck). I fell in love with the all-black thing (I was never a fan of that motif until seeing this bass!). They had it listed with a Buy It Now of $1300 or best offer...so I just put an offer that I expected them to turn down for sure ($950 + free shipping), and they went for it! This is around the same price that my local G&L dealer quoted me to have one made (he said probably around $900 or so- he didn't get too exact about the costs of extra options), and I am too impatient to wait for a custom- I actually have never seen an SB-2 quite like this, and like it more (in theory for now, until I actually get to play it!) than the idea I originally had!

I just got my "New" Trbute. It has G&L in big letters on the headstock, and G&L on the bridge. I ordered and I paid a little more than I could have bought it for from on the Web. I have seen this week, Tribute 2500Ls for as little as $499.99, but they are Old stock. They even had free shipping! I bought mine from G&L so I would get one of the newer models. I thought I was getting a Cherryburst, but what came in was a 3 color burst. It was so beautiful, I could not send it back. It is a Premium model with swamp ash that was finished flawlessly. I did not want to take a chance on getting something else. When ordering Redburst is not Cherryburst. That is where I made the mistake. I ordered a maple neck that is as straight as they get. Every joint on this guitar was perfect. I am not used to the neck yet. I have 3 other basses besides this one. The 2 pick ups are massive. They are so hot they will peal the skin off your face if you are standing in front of the amp. I don't see a need to flip the active switch on. The pots must have been updated because they are dead quite. I took it to a friend of mine who sets up guitars for many of the stars in Nashville. He was blown away and he sees thousands of guitars. The only thing he had to say bad about it was that he would change the strings. The harmonics are so hot, and the pickups have to be turned down because when you touch a string it rings. I will put a picture on the net when my wife brings the camera home from the store. I would have someone who is a professional to set this guitar up. He opened up the neck bridge on each string a little and you would not believe how long it sustains now. This guitar plays every bit as good as my Status Graphite and twice as hot. If you are looking for something to rock with, this is the animal. It will take me a while to figure out how to set it up for jazz, although it plays good enough, I will have to learn how to mellow it down some. I imagine this will have to be done with the amp. I would say in my opinion this is the best buy for the money that is out there. The quality is unreal. Get one and try it. I believe even G&L believes in it as they now put there name on it in a big way. The "Tribute series" is only about 1/32 of an inch tall. If the electronics are American made, and the pots are quite, maybe the same ones that are in the American. I see no reason to spend the extra cash. This is not a cheap made guitar. I will just have to learn how to use the power of the massive pups. Delete this if you want to as I will put a picture up in a day or so. I will not write this again but look for plugandplay's 3 colored redburst. I will professionally put a picture that shows the finish that is, again flawless. Link Removed

That looks like a cut up telecaster pickguard. Cool idea.

I think I'll be passing along my fretless L-2000 to ward off some of the cost of my new string bass, which will leave me with just the L1K (no problem with that!).

My latest acquisition. I picked it up via a second chance offer on ebay for a good deal planning on turning it quickly. But it's lighter than my other G&Ls and valuing clarity and evenness like I do it's going to be hard to let go. Not to mention how good it looks in clear orange w/body binding over ash and the satin maple skinny neck. But the low output may do it in after getting used to SB-2s and L2Ks for years and years.
