My mother's family emigrated through New Orleans, as did many Sicilians and Italians, around 1900, as they could find work and the climate and proximity to seafood was similar to southern Italy and Sicily. Here's a traditional New Orleans recipe by those Italians for Festa e San Giuseppe, Pasta Milanese:
