Look like EV TL606's - Bog standard EV 1x15"'s that were THE standard bass bin where I live throughout the 80's thru to late 90's.
I've still got mine with it's 400w EV driver. I buil;t my cab back when, & didn't give a rats about weight. I think I added a few bricks inside it (for stability), feels like it ;-)

My Yamaha 2-15" again that I bought for $75. I swear, this is the best cab design for feeling bass frequencies. Ugh, I love it/hate it. Weighs around 175 lbs. The Carvins were a surprise for me. I bought a 1-15" for home use on their ebay store for just over $200. It was such a good cab, I ordered a second one (at full cost) and a bass (SB4K a.k.a Jazz Killa ). Only complaint is that the "tolex" is cheap. I say "tolex" because this stuff is like plastic. It's not the "tolex" that my 1980 Peavey MkIII amp is covered in. Anyways, be careful with the cab. Or, get covers/pads made. (is this the stuff all modern day tolex is made from?) I run the tweet off on the Cavins. Tweet on a 1980 Yamaha? Not in the design plan. This is a Sunn 215B clone. Each amp is running 4 ohms and I adjust volume by ear/clip indicator. So loud! Yes, We Wear hearing protection. (and have blue lighting for effect, band in sig.)


Note:The BRX Carvin stuff comes with bedliner stuff. It is also in the $500+ range and only comes as a 3-way, 1-15" cab. I like my gear a bit simpler.

Yes it was quite intense! It felt good to feel my pants flapping with the sound. Don Barry built this cab and I'm very pleased. Awesome bottoms in this thread!

Dang, you should give your EV a tryout in your Ampeg cab... I installed an EV 15B in one of my Ampeg B100R combos and really dig-it!

Ich frag mich eigentlich immer warum es neuer Tolex sein muss
bei manchen Musikern wenn ein Amp in die Jahre gekommen
ist. Da ich zwischen 1984 und 1985 schon einen Peavey TNT
benutzt habe wollte ich mal wieder einen haben. Bei Ebay-
kleinanzeigen war schnell einer gefunden. Dieser war aber in
einem erbärmlichen Zustand. Hatte keine Zeit ihn zu testen
bei Lieferung des Vorbesitzers so dass ich erst mal dachte
„reingefallen“ nach dem ersten anschalten wonach es ein
schönes lautes durchgehendes 50Hz Netzbrummen gab.

Also erst mal den TNT demontiert und alle vom Vorbesitzer
eingebauten abenteuerlichen Modifikationen rückgängig
gemacht und siehe da netzbrummen war weg.

Also erst mal den Amp-Teil gereinigt so dass dieser schon mal
mit einem hochohmigen Lautsprecher ( um den Amp zum
Schwitzen zu bringen ) 48 Stunden Dauertest durchlaufen
konnte:

In der Zeit schon mal den schönen alten Keflarbeschichteten
Peavey BlackWidow 1502 gereinigt:

Peavey-Schriftzug auf der Frontbespannung hatte die typische
Peaveymacke aus der Zeit. Es fehlte ein Stück ( sind immer
recht schnell abgebrochen ) vom „Y“:

Nun zum Ampgehäuse selber..... Spandex...naja...schlimm..... und
dann hatte ein ganz Intelligenter noch das Gehäuse „zum besseren
Transport“ durchgesägt:

Also erst mal Holzleisten gesägt zum Verleimen des Gehäuses ( die
zwei Holzleisten des Vorbesitzers konnten ja auch ruhig bleiben sieht
man ja später sowieso nicht und waren verleimt ):

Danach das ganze verleimt und gut zum trocknen verspannt:

In der Trockenzeit konnte man sich dem Problem des Peaveyschriftzugs
annehmen ( neues Logo kaufen kann jeder und ist Wucher ) also schnell
ein Stück Aluminium gesucht und das fehlende Stück passend gefeilt
(der schwarze Spalt muss noch mit Alufarbe aufgefüllt werden sieht aber
so schon recht gut aus ):

Nach der Trockenzeit des verleimten Gehäuses konnte auch dieses
grundlegend gereinigt werden. Alle losen Tolexstellen verklebt werden.
Das fehlende ca. 8cm x 18cm große Stück am Unterboden konnte mit Tolex
was über war verklebt werden ( der Tolex war ja großzügig bis in den
oberen Ampteil umgeschlagen verklebt so dass man dort den Streifen
abschneiden konnte um ihn zu verwenden und der Tolex dort immer noch
bis 4cm hinters Blech reichte ). Nach Reinigung und Zusammenbau sieht
er jetzt wieder so aus ( klar man sieht wenn man es weiß wo das Gehäuse
wieder zusammengeleimt wurde aber der Tolex ist dort richtig verklebt
so das sich nix löst und es von 1m Entfernung kaum noch auffällt) und das
ohne neuen Tolex oder andere große Kosten ( kleiner Unterschied zu vorher ):

Metallteile und blanke Holzstellen ( Ampinnenseite ) wurde neu schwarz
lackiert und die Flickstellen am Tolex mit schwarzem Heißkleber geklebt:

I've tried a few different setups and found that this gives me the sound that I hear in my head.

Fender Bassman 400 through a Bassman 115.

Although I hadn't really thought about it, I played drums in a band with a guy who played a rig just like it. That is probably where the sound that I hear in my head came from. lol

Thanks. It isn't that bad, although I don't move it much myself. It's lighter than my Henry 8x8...

Heard mention of TL-606s last page, thought I'd put these up (I may have done this before!). They're ugly, but they're solid, have nice drivers in 'em, and they're paid for! I've always favored 15s.

Currently powering with an Eden WT-405 or an SWR SM-400s. Or the quilted Beest sitting upon them here...

It's excellent with a twangy bass and a dirty tube head, if you have help loading and the cargo space. Surprisingly light, considering. Must admit I wanted one before I ever heard one, just because they look so cool.

If I dont find one, I'll make one. I'd run is with a COncert head for the dirty side of my setup.
