I really liked the sound of the stock DB 115, too. But since I've become a 'one cab on the gig' sort of guy I got interested in a way to change my DB into a 4 ohm cab. After reading reviews by johnk_10 regarding the Faital I decided to take the plunge. Also had someone run WinSD for me to see if it was feasible. It was. In addition to changing to 4 ohms I wanted to lose some of the hooded, mid-range forward characteristics of the cab and get a slightly more open sound. That is how I would describe the change. Yes, it still can be heard in a loud, dense mix. The low end remained large and in charge. And it weighs about 59 lbs now. I still have the original Aggie/Emi speaker so I can change back at any time. Hope this helps.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention. Besides the 'slight' increase in perceived volume that results from changing from 8 ohms to 4, the 15PR400 seems to be a more efficient speaker regardless. The increase in perceived volume was significant.

I have never had a need for more volume than my rig can easily put out already, but a slightly more open sound certainly sounds interesting. Knowing that it's reversible is the safety net. A little less weight is attactive, too. I might opt for an 8ohm version, however, to retain the option of pairing it with my DB210.

Made from a bass drum shell. Loaded with an Eminence Deltalite. No longer mine, but I was kind of proud of it.

That is one cool looking bass drum shell bass cabinet. How did you attach the drum shell to the
front and back panels? Was it insulated? Is it totally sealed or was it ported in the back like my
15" BagEnds? How did it sound?

Lots of questions, but I've been a carpenter and still drum. I'm trying to envision how I would
have built it. WW

Did a re-amping session the other day. The old 15's just killed through the vintage mic, the results were absolutely stunning. Nothing but love for 15's!(The G&L belongs to the studio, it was keeping me company during the downtime).

I tried it sealed first, then added a port on the back. I'm sure that if I'd taken the time to really understand speaker design, I could have done better. In the end, although it was loud and dynamic, it didn't have that much focus. Certain frequencies seemed to convolute. But it was really fun to build!

Nice slideshow of the build abarson. I really liked the router jig you made to cut the flat panel grooves for the drum shell to fit in. Well done. WW

yeah, I know its a kustom PA cab :D tweeters disconected makes for a good "stuff shelf"

the 1x15 is made by who knows BUT it has an EV in it, is from the mid - late 70s? and it was only 100$

Yeah those folded cabinets definitely sound good. Back in the day, I use to gig with two Acoustic 301's powered by the 370 head. It was the loudest 375 Watts you've ever heard :-) Rarely if ever needed PA support with that rig. Ran a line out to a slave with a 610 guitar cab for a bit of highs added in. Blew those 10's a lot though, didn't have X-overs LOL

OK, I'll play :hyper:

Here's my recently completed composite 1x15 also with the 15PR400 (8 ohm) and also with the TH500. I'm gonna agree about the great pairing of the two. :D 'Blue, any idea what the volume and tuning frequency of the DB115 box is, for comparison?

Final weight's not in yet, but head + cab are in the ballpark of 30 lbs.

That is a sweet rig, my friend. You might love it even more if you stick a FaitalPRO 15PR400 in that DB 115 box. I did (the 4 ohm version) and couldn't be happier. Just don't tell the guys at Aguilar about it. :)
