----- EDIT -----
If it weren't so heavy, I'd use it. Works fine. It's old and has some cool scars. I love the sound of the old 115BW. Very bright... doesnt take a lot of power. I seem to recall seeing the speaker is a fav with steel guitar players since it goes pretty high and low compared to normal guitar cabs.
I played this weekend.. small bar, I just brought my practice TC BG250 115. About 35 pounds. The whole combo weighs less than that Peavey Bass head. I will probably ending up selling it, although it will probably last as long or longer than most thing's I'd buy today. I have more emotional attachment to my old basses rather than my old amp. It will be a little sad letting the head and 15 go, but I just don't use them, they are big and heavy, I have other gear that sounds as good or better, and... my wife wants them gone and I don't really have a good reason to tell her why I want to keep them. LOL
Sorry, no pics... can I still play? I bought an EA CXL-112 and found it a bit too clean. So I talked to Don at LDS and he made me a 12/6 cab to go with the EA cab. Complimented the EA nicely while producing a more "vintage" sound. I ran these two together quite a bit. I ran the EA with the tweeter off so the highs came through the more mid oriented 6.
I have since switched to the EA wizzy cabs and never looked back. But the CXL-112 and the LDS are still in the basement.
I guess it is kinda cheating since I had the second cab specially made to work with the first cab.
I love this thread already, its like a slap in the face to all the naysayers!! I'll play, my 2 rigs....
A few fellow TB'ers gave me crap about using my 800RB (bi-amped BTW) with my Hartke 2x10 with the 15 saying "that 15 isn't a sub, blah blah blah!!"...yes, I know!!
I bought both off CL and the seller *wouldn't* split them up anyways, this has often been the case in the past buying other mixed driver rigs!!
From my understanding lows require more wattage than highs, the 15 is 180 watts and the 2x10 is 120 so both cabs match up perfectly with my 300 watt GK, and biamped forget about it!! Needless to say everything works great together!!
To me it sounds great!! Solid bottom, well defined; can be really percussive (I think that is a lot the head).
To be honest, I usually use the 112 with my GK MB200 head for jams, open mikes, etc. 90% of my "gigging" is a tiny little dive bar, where this is enough rig for the room.
The Mesa/NEO 115 I used for a while playing with a bigger classic pop band which fizzled. Super fun gig, hope it comes back around in some form.
The only time I've cranked it, as pictured, is at home.
