Happening to the east of me (Flagstaff). Grey wolves can't count. Volunteers locate dens with new litters, wait for the mom to go hunting, add one born-in-captivity wolf pup to the den, roll it around really well so it smells like its new brothers and sisters, and then let the wild mom raise it along with her own pups.

We just threw out Felix’s (our Boston) ratty pull toy and gave him a replacement. He went to the garbage can, which is concealed behind a folding door and tried to open it up to get the old toy.
I feel for your pup. My wife threw out my old beloved sneakers and I also went to the trash to retrieve them.
Life sure is Ruff during these quarantine days. everybody sporting the home done haircuts.
