In the next two years greyhound racing will come to an end in Florida. This is both good and bad news. The good is the greys will no longer be abused, as kennels who race greys often treat them poorly as they are considered little more than paychecks.
The bad is that 5,000 to 7,000 greyhounds will need a home according to estimates. Roughly 1000-2000 greys are adopted in the US annually. So 5,000 to 7,000 greyhounds is a lot of dogs to absorb in one year.
So if you have ever wanted a greyhound, now is the time to adopt. They make fantastic friends.

Poor sweet animals. My wife and I say when we hit Lotto we are going to buy lots of land and rescue many more dawgs.

I have a friend whose wife rescued two. Wonderful animals. 40 mph couch potatoes. Healthy by nature. They don't really like long walks. Just a bolt or three around the neighborhood. They do take up quite of bit of floor space, as they like to stretch out. All three of mine take up half the space of one! Ha!
My lifestyle includes daily multi-mile walks with my 3 dogs, which kind of leaves out greyhounds. I do have an Italian Greyhuahua. He trails behind me, while the other two are hard to keep up with.
If a greyhound fits your lifestyle, rescue two! They're wonderful companions.
We currently have 3 dogs and I am debating about more.

Kibble, milkbones, and P Basses. And redheads.
I have a small beagle ("beaglish"), and a large bulldog. They like to come outside with me when I am working in the yard, but I have no fence. I just tie their leashes together. The little one keeps the big one moving, and the big one keeps the little one from running too far.
Haha in my house and the butt is up it means "I want to go out" if the butt is down it means "just chillin" we call it the bow or the Sphinx
