For the greyhound lovers, I recommend listening to Stan Rogers' "Witch of the Westmorelands" - a fine old ballad in which a brindle hound features somewhat prominently.

In this version, the hound is first mentioned at about 2:10...
This came on the radio while I was driving home from work about a month after our brindle greyhound passed (too early - bone cancer), and I literally had to pull off the road to cry.
I still miss that wonderful, crazy, beautiful dog. As you can tell from my hair, that was a long while ago.

Sorry to hear that. The toughest thing about pet ownership is having a pet pass.

Unfortunately, Chase has lymphoma and we will be having to put him down soon. His quality of life has diminished significantly over the past 2 months.

It's a tough decision because it feels like I am betraying my best friend, but on the other hand, it's not fair to keep him pumped full of drugs because I can't let go.

It's a really hard choice to make. Good luck, and enjoy (and make special) the time you have together.

The thing we've always wondered about each of the rescue dogs we've adopted is, considering what great dogs they've turned out to be, how could anyone give them up or abandon them? I understand that sometimes the circumstances leave the owners no choice, but that can't always be the case with these dogs (and cats).
