They're lab mixes; one is 45ish pounds, the other is between 50-55. They've been incredibly easy, even as a first time dog parent in my late 30s/early 40s.

My vote would be for a poopie like that. I'm not sure if that answers your question, but hopefully it's on the right track.

Lightly toothy, to me, would probably be around half way between a miniature poodle and a pit bull. Just enough to make the burglars think twice before getting in the back yard with it. Sadly, most pit bull crosses are designed to enhance, rather than alleviate the fearsome reputation. Combo was a cross between a popular pig hunting mix and a wire haired pointer. Dr Seuss would love him. Not at all scary but big.

At this stage all suggestions are worthwhile. I never know what will send the mind off down the right track.

In the world of sympathy and kind thoughts I'm living in right now, I got an offer of a free puppy the next day. Looks from the parents to be a mix of Mastiff and Pitty. Possibly other toothy bits in the mix as well. Had that brew B4. Lovely personality. Can frighten the horses.

Hanging out hard for a four legged friend right now. But my life is at a crossroads as it stands and I don't want to rush any decisions. Trying to find a new partner and/or going back to my country could distinct possiblities. Cold, dispassionate me knows I need a dog that will be easy to give away responsibly and won't up my perceived macho quota.

I'm not big on breeds. Most of which seem to be over-engineered recreations born of romantic Victorian sensibilities. I'm not posting for expressions of sympathy that no doubt will follow and I will be grateful for. But l would be interested in the members experiences with middle size mongrels that can fill the role at the side gate and still inspire confidence round grandkids

TL/DR Looking for a lightly toothy family dog.

I am sorry about every bit of that, I wish for you to find some joy real soon.
In that last two years, I've met a number of people who have American Bully dogs that look to me like a super thick Pitbull that is clearly the product of a PitBull bred with a short stout Bulldog of some sort. They look like a lot of dog, but it turns out they are total creampuffs, bred for temperament and looks.
No game bred dogs, just a family dog that is supposed to look cool on the end of a chain leash and a wide collar.

Thank you for your thoughts. Lots of good memories and good people around. It ain't as tragic as it sounds.

That bully dog sounds like it might be worh some research. Gives me something else to consider.

Lots of love coming from myself and my 3 puppers.

In your search for your next pupper, I would suggest a different approach. Go to your local dog rescues and see what they have. You're sure to find one that fits your needs and shares your desire for shared love. That's how I got all three of mine.

I second this suggestion. Our poopies came from a local rescue as well.

Rescue dog might work. Always shied away from them after the FIL told me about a dog goin nuts to applause at his photography club. Figured I don't need to deal with hidden attack commands. But if I'm going something a bit more user friendly it probably A, didn't happen and B, doesn't matter. And as a bonus, with a more grown up dog, I can see more clearly exactly what I'm getting.

Definitely food for thought there. Thank you, gentlemen.

Yup. Each of my three were about 18 months when I got them. Fully grown with developed personalities, but still youthfully playful as all get out. The first two were already house broken. My third, a Chihuahua, was a rez dog from the Navajo Nation in northeast Arizona. He spent his first 18 months as a stray, living outdoors and begging food from any- and everyone. He needed a little training, but he's smart as a whip and learned quickly. For a little dog, he can sure drop a big deuce. :roflmao:

Sorry for your rough year. I would recommend essentially any mixed breed that would fulfill your requirements. Those tend to have the best temperaments and intelligence.

Agreed on finding a rescue. Our Odie is one (chihuahua / Jack Russell terrier mix we think), and is the best dog. It's like they know they're lucky dogs.

I watch a lot of those vet shows (Dr Pol, Critter Fixers, Dr Jeff, Heartland Vets) and every now and then they'll get a dog or cat that had been shot with a gun or arrow. Recently saw a cat that had to have a leg amputated due to the shotgun destroying the shoulder joint, but he still had so much birdshot in him that the vet said it would cause more damage to try and remove it than it would to leave it in. Must have had two dozen BBs all throughout his little body. Utterly disgusting how some people mistreat animals. Special place in hell for those individuals. :mad:
