Perfect example of why "a dog's life" has such a positive vibe!
One year ago today, we got to take Patti home from the shelter after she was spayed and got her initial treatment for heartworms. She had to take it easy (with plenty of crate rest) for about 3 months as she got more injections. But she got through it, has been thriving since, and at her checkup two weeks ago all her tests were negative!
This was her snuggling into my wife for the first time on the way home from the shelter. We both melted.
She's had a great day today. She ate some custard (we gave her less than half of what's shown here, the rest is in the freezer).
She got a new toy, which she's taken an immediate shine to.
And she just had a special dinner, which included shrimp, some inexpensive steak, carrots, peas, a little rice and kibble. She usually doesn't eat veggies, but she gobbled up everything. Tomorrow it's back to her diet, she's about 2 lbs. over her target.
This is really my first time having a dog (other than a short-lived trial when I was small). I knew it was going to be fun once I got over my worries about whether we were ready (my wife had an outside dog when she was younger, but he pretty much never came in the house). But having Patti has been better than I could have imagined. She's such a good girl, and we're nuts about her.

Ha, thanks! She's actually very good--not only sweet and affectionate, but also well-behaved. She was house-trained when we got her, she knows what she can and can't chew on (save a recent episode with the ends of our pillowcases) and she never begs (well, maybe with her eyes) or tries to get to our food when we eat on the coffee table in front of the couch. Oh, and she's smart; she's mastered two puzzles and is really quick when we do plastic Easter egg hunts in the house. She does get excited and often barky around other dogs and people, but she's gaining more confidence as a result of some recent obedience courses.Patti's a cutie!
