just a random thought for the dog thread:
if you see a service dog in public, remember that the dog is legally (and.. literally) medical equipment. asking to pet, say hi, or whatever, is like asking to take someones wheelchair for a spin.
Obviously we can't help but admire - a really nice service dog is something to be impressed by, or interested in. but, they can cost tens of thousands of dollars and a big part of being reliable is being neutral to the world around them. saying hi to strangers interferes with that.
I don't train service dogs, but i'm aware of what goes in to it.
IMO this is a nice thing to teach your children as well - you can feel all warm and fuzzy and be excited seeing a cool dog, but be mindful to just respectfully pass by.
certain dogs and handlers will allow greetings, but that's a separate topic all together.
anyway, i'll go walk my pet dog and post a cute picture of how spoiled he is later.
