Show your tidy pedalboard!

Looking for a little pedal order advice with this one. I may end up making two boards instead of just one. Note there is a placeholder for the new Omnicomp which is coming soon.

If I can be so bold, it's the sound in my head and it works incredibly well for the band I'm in. We're a three piece playing heavier/progressive rock. So a focused, punchy, and pretty grindy sound fits the bill. It's weirdly got depth in the low end but it sounds tight enough in the lowest lows that it doesn't step on and muddy up the kick. There's also a notch in the mids (around 500ish?) that keeps it from sounding boxy, despite the name. And another thing I like a ton is whatever freqs are getting hyped a bit in the high-mids and treble - it's cutting but not harsh. Since I started using it, I cut and sit in our mix better without stepping on drums or guitar. It's even noticeable on the phone recordings we use to review songs we're working out in practice, etc. I did have to re-EQ my fuzz and tweak my distortion going into it, since it's relatively low-gain and always on at the end of my dirt chain on my bigger board.

Anyway, I was in the same boat - had my eye on them for years & never pulled the trigger. Glad I finally did. I'm primarily a finger player, so the big difference is I'm getting more low end punch and a bit less of that compressed pick attack compared to a lot of the recordings you hear of the RB/TS-50B tones (TJL, Shellac, etc.). If you dig big, fat, pillowy lows and traditional tubey sounds, I would recommend looking elsewhere. If you want punchy and focused with that distinct grind, it's definitely worth a shot.

Actually, one set of pedals will be my main gigging board and the others are just for at home messing around. I’m also toying with the idea of getting one of those multifx units like a boss GT1000core / HX Stomp / Zoom B6 to augment anything I would need otherwise. And yes, a Rusty Box has been on my gas list for a while.

If your OCD is killing you, you could try to get the cable out from the Benson and to the left, up and then under the Benson in the gap? Would that be possible? Really nice board! I would love to try the Astra but I just got myself an Walrus Audio M1 instead.

The photo can’t show that clearly, to the left of Benson output is the power input of the Hudson Broadcast. So I can’t turn the plug towards that area too. :(

You could build a small riser for the benson, which might give enough room to turn the connector down. That's probably what I would do, short of scrapping it all and building a new board ;).

Well, either you go to the broughton website, put the HPF into your shopping cart and check out,
or you search for one via reverb.com or on your local second hand market(s).
There is a German alternative: The Mini-HP-Vong by Schalltechnik_04.
These are only available as kit (for €23,50), but if you look around on the German market they crop up quite frequently. Placing an ad on the classifieds on bassic.de will usually net you one within the day.

I've tried the Broughton and the Vong side by side and I can't make out a difference. I mean, it's a simple enough circuit and it's meant to do nothing but cutting off the lows.

I've only found my C4 to be noise if a) there are PSU supply issues and/or b) the C4 is connected to a USB device. It seems to get some bleed though from the Neuro Desktop data.
Supply it with the right juice and disconnect the USB port and it's really quiet.
